Second Life Bar Association Meeting TranscriptSept. 12, 2009
[10:02] Legal Writer: Please take a seat, and we will get started.
[10:02] Legal Writer: Welcome, everyone, let's get started.
[10:03] Legal Writer: I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer. All the kids are hopefully back in school and we're getting back to some of the business that's been waiting for us.
[10:04] Legal Writer: I would like to remind everyine that a transcript of this meeting will be posted on the SLBA website after the meeting. Thanks go to Cat for posting our previous meeting minutes.
[10:04] Legal Writer: I am seeing that Cat posted our agenda onto the screen. So we will begin with a welcome to our new board members.
[10:05] Legal Writer: On behalf of the SLBA, I would like officially to welcome Higgs Wopat, JamieBryce Infinity, and Racheal Chevalier as new board members.
[10:05] Morgandy Muircastle: woohooo!
[10:05] Virgil Chronowire: Welcome
[10:06] jamiebryce Infinity: :)
[10:06] Soro Dagostino: yay!
[10:06] Legal Writer: We welcome all of them and are looking forward to a terrific year of their participation on the board.
[10:06] Legal Writer: One of the things that's particularly great for our association is to have new insights and skills standing behind the membership, to make it better and stronger.
[10:07] Legal Writer: So, I applaud their interest, and am excited about working with them in the upcoming year.
[10:07] Legal Writer: I wanted to let you know that Racheal and perhaps Higgs are on travel and are tyring to come, but may have some connectivity issues.
[10:08] Legal Writer: But we have jamiebryce here. Jamiebryce, can you please share a few words about your personal views of what you would like to do as a board member this year?
[10:08] jamiebryce Infinity: Cheers, all, and thanks again for allowing us to serve. My other two new colleagues sent regrets for today, as Legal noted, but i understand they also will say a few words at the next meeting....
[10:08] jamiebryce Infinity: Anyway, to the point, obviously most of the Board's current agenda (career fair, educational series, enhancement to our web presence & social networking, and sorting out our own RL organizational status) all are important to me ...
[10:09] jamiebryce Infinity: Personally my interests lie strongly with the last two ... in addition to this, my own include making sure that this group is (a) international in scope and methodologies .. and
[10:09] jamiebryce Infinity: (b) relevance of our work here to the direct daily life of avatars in SL, and the people and enterprises that support them. After all, there are laws, and inringements, and commerce here :) thanks.
[10:09] Legal Writer: Terrific, jamiebryce. Thank you for your comments and welcome again.
[10:10] Legal Writer: I am going to move to our second point about ABA interest in further collaboration.
[10:11] Legal Writer: I want to tell you that I spent the last three days in Chicago at the American Bar Association Section Officers Conference.
[10:11] Legal Writer: By way of background, I am the Chair-Elect of the ABA Section of Science and Technology Law.
[10:12] Legal Writer: The SOC is a meeting of all of the leaders of the various sections in the ABA.
[10:12] Legal Writer: We met as a big group and I had a break out group meeting with the chairs-elect of all the other sections.
[10:12] Legal Writer: I want to let you know that the ABA people I spoke to are interested in Second Life, and interested in collaborating with us.
[10:13] Legal Writer: One of the Section chairs-elect told me that he would like to facilitate a CLE program to US government lawyers.
[10:13] Legal Writer: That's one example.
[10:13] Legal Writer: I asked a question of the ABA president (head of lawyers) and the Executive Director (head of staff) about the ABA's interest in SL and 3D internet applications generally.
[10:14] Legal Writer: That was at a meeting of all the leaders. The effect of the question and answer was to raise awareness of SL and what can be done on it.
[10:14] Legal Writer: Then, in private conversations, people followed up and expressed an interest in the ABA becoming more involved.
[10:15] Legal Writer: I see that as an opportunity for this association to answer the thirst for knowledge at the ABA.
[10:15] Soro Dagostino raises hand
[10:15] Legal Writer: We can provide the forum for ABA groups to provide CLE, and prime the pump for our speaker series.
[10:15] jamiebryce Infinity: Legal, congrats to you personally, of course, wearing your ABA hat. Sounds like a wonderful collaboration, though of course we will need to watch for overlapping role issues -- and there likely are multiple ABA sections who would properly wish to be involved
[10:16] Legal Writer: I see opportunities to co-sponsor more programs with various sections, and yes, we will need to keep all the groups straight.
[10:16] Legal Writer: Let me pick up on two other things that jamiebryce said to you earlier in his talk.
[10:16] Soro Dagostino raises hand
[10:16] Legal Writer: First, the SOC and what jamiebryce said reminds me that RELEVANCE is key to any association.
[10:17] Legal Writer: We need to be relevant to our members. And provide relevant content.
[10:17] Legal Writer: Then, second jamiebryce reminded us that we need to be GLOBAL. The world is a big place and international law is critical.
[10:18] Legal Writer: Understanding how we need to be relevant to a global audience will be critical for our association. And I hope that jamiebryce's ideas, and the ideas of all of you, will help us meet that challenge.
[10:18] Legal Writer: Anyway, Soro, you had a question?
[10:19] Legal Writer: Ok, well, Soro, we can come back to you.
[10:19] Soro Dagostino: Yes, any connection with the ABA's GP/Solo Group?
[10:19] Soro Dagostino: It has the largest Board in the ABA group.
[10:20] Legal Writer: Soro, yes, I made a good contact of the chair elect of the GP Solo and Small Firm Division.
[10:20] Legal Writer: I happen to be the liaison from the ABA Section of Science and Technology Law to the GP Solo Division.
[10:20] Legal Writer: So I spent some time hanging out with the chair elect of the division.
[10:20] Soro Dagostino: That's super.
[10:20] Legal Writer: I do believe we can work together.
[10:20] Soro Dagostino: The JAG guy?
[10:21] Legal Writer: The JAG gent is chair this year. I am speaking about the chair elect.
[10:21] Soro Dagostino: Joe?
[10:21] Legal Writer: Yes
[10:21] Legal Writer: Dewoskin
[10:21] Soro Dagostino: Then you might get somewhere.
[10:21] Legal Writer: Joe seems to be a great guy
[10:21] Soro Dagostino: IMHO
[10:22] Legal Writer: Anyway, during the break out session of the chairs-elect, I have a demonstration of SL and also showed screenshots of this room and the SLBA lounge.
[10:22] Legal Writer: People really liked to see it, had a lot of questions, and wanted to know more.
[10:23] Legal Writer: They are asking me to get interested people from the chairs-elect on SL. I see this as a potential group of new members for our association as well.
[10:23] Legal Writer: That demo also brought out the interest of co-sponsored programs.
[10:24] Legal Writer: So, that's a lot to say that I see relationships with the ABA and other groups as being important to getting the word out about us, and delivering content, relevant content, to our members.
[10:24] jamiebryce Infinity: Legal, can e talk further about ABA outreach at some point, maybe in the Board? I;d love to see us levergae that but do NOT want to miss hitting a few other national law societies as well.
[10:25] Legal Writer: Good idea. Important thought. We should try to reach out to bars around the world. If you are a leader in a bar, please consider introducing our group to your colleaguges.
[10:25] Morgandy Muircastle: Or even if you're not a leader.
[10:26] Legal Writer: Sure
[10:26] Legal Writer: Any other thoughts on this topic?
[10:26] Legal Writer: OK, let's move on then.
[10:26] Michele Jigsaw: we are happy to offer our campus to be used for any ABA programs
[10:26] Morgandy Muircastle: I have seen the Ceremonial Classroom at UF and it's gorgeous.
[10:27] Legal Writer: Thanks, Michele, that's great!
[10:27] Legal Writer: The next topic is the careers fair.
[10:27] Morgandy Muircastle: We're moving along with plans.
[10:27] Legal Writer: The date is coming up, Nov. 14, and we all need to support Morgandy on this.
[10:27] Legal Writer: Morgandy, would you like to say a few words on how this is going?
[10:28] Morgandy Muircastle: Yes, thanks.
[10:28] Morgandy Muircastle: The location is private, so we have an email address, as well as Michele's IM for RSVP.
[10:28] Morgandy Muircastle: To hadn out guest passes adn asnwer questions.
[10:29] Morgandy Muircastle: We're at the point where we're getting close to the final push and we could really benefit from help with some specific tasks.
[10:29] Morgandy Muircastle: We need a couple more speakers for the first Session on the unique practice issues that come up in practicing in SL, or advising clients with a presence in SL. Things like cross jurisdictional issues, or cultural issues. I have asked a few people to be on this panel, but have not received confirmation.
[10:29] Morgandy Muircastle: If you would like to be on this panel and I didn't ask you, it's just because I don't know everyone yet.
[10:29] Legal Writer: Please IM Morgandy if you can help on this.
[10:30] Morgandy Muircastle: For the second Session on the typical substantive issues that arise, we have Lexis and his search for an enforceable contract. Legal on, I assume, IP issues; and DanielPerry on I believe privacy issues.
[10:30] Morgandy Muircastle: The other specific areas we need help in are
1. Advertising in SL - posters? notecards?
To be honest, I don't know how to get the word out in SL and need some help.
2. Advertising in RL -
each of us contacting our alma mater
[10:30] Legal Writer: That's great, and I am in for IP issues.
[10:31] Legal Writer: Morgandy, perhaps Cat can discuss advertising with you.
[10:31] jamiebryce Infinity: Morgandy, other than being on panels, and promotion, are there anyother specific sorts of assistance would be helpful?
[10:31] DanielPerry Laa: And I am glad to assiston privacy issues
[10:31] Legal Writer: Also, I can put you in touch with young lawyers and law students about the conference.
[10:31] Morgandy Muircastle: The day of the event, we'll need folks to help get conversation going
[10:31] jamiebryce Infinity: and I'm in, if you ike, for practice issues IN SL
[10:31] Morgandy Muircastle: Great, thanks Jamie
[10:31] Lexis Looming: I'll be glad to keep searching for an enforceable contract
[10:31] Michele Jigsaw: lol
[10:32] jamiebryce Infinity: hahah lexis they are all around us
[10:32] Michele Jigsaw: my students will also be there to assist with logistics and questions
[10:32] Morgandy Muircastle: Legal, I was wondering if you had gotten the contact info for the ABA student
[10:32] jamiebryce Infinity: never underestimate the law merchant :D
[10:32] Legal Writer: I do, Morgandy. I will intro you by email.
[10:32] Morgandy Muircastle: Yeah, I appreciate that from Michele's class, it'll be a big help.
[10:32] DanielPerry Laa: What do you mean re enforceable contract? Is there a problem with that? Perhaps there is a web page with discussion I have missed.
[10:32] jamiebryce Infinity: saaaay that reminds me - ABA YLD is a natural for SL, Legal
[10:33] Legal Writer: That's what I was thinking, jamiebryce. YLD and the Section of Science and Technology Law has a liaison from YLD.
[10:33] jamiebryce Infinity: (sorry)
[10:33] Legal Writer: That's a great ida
[10:33] Legal Writer: idea
[10:34] Legal Writer: Morgandy, do you feel like you have enough logistical support for now?
[10:34] Morgandy Muircastle: I think that indivual contact is as important as general announcements for promotion
[10:34] Morgandy Muircastle: so help from each of us a little, I think goes a long way.
[10:34] Rose Springvale: maybe we should divide up Cats Law directory and contact people in that
[10:34] Legal Writer: The law student liaison to our section said that she could get an email/phone chain going with various law schools whenever we need it.
[10:35] Morgandy Muircastle: I looked up who in the roster of inactive members were profs and started sending email.
[10:35] Michele Jigsaw: and anyone who has prelaw contacts
[10:35] Morgandy Muircastle: That's a good idea Rose
[10:35] Cat Galileo: Cat's law directory is a bit outdated :-)
[10:35] Michele Jigsaw: that woul dbe good as well
[10:35] Cat Galileo: good start i spose
[10:35] Rose Springvale: two birds with one stone then Cat, I still get people calling from it
[10:35] DanielPerry Laa: Are we going to stream this thriugh Ustream like TreetTV ? Won't we get too much lag otherwise?
[10:35] Morgandy Muircastle: ??
[10:36] Michele Jigsaw: stream to other locations Daniel?
[10:36] Legal Writer: Perhaps you can describe how it works.
[10:37] DanielPerry Laa: Yes, TreetTV recently steramed a fashion show oveer the web and limited SL attendees becasue too mny attendees would have caused too much lag
[10:37] jamiebryce Infinity: venue matters :D
[10:37] jamiebryce Infinity: good land planning can do a LOT there
[10:37] Legal Writer: Can we "broadcast" our meeting to people over the web who don't have SL software, or computers incapable of running it?
[10:37] Morgandy Muircastle: Michele, do you know how many people can effectively be in that room?
[10:37] Michele Jigsaw: we can accommodate 50 avatars in the room w/o seriously impacting the program
[10:38] DanielPerry Laa: Of course, part of the problem was that fashion prims are large but nevertheless if we get too many attendees we may hangup
[10:38] Michele Jigsaw: if you want to stream it live O need to know ASAP
[10:38] Michele Jigsaw: *I need
[10:38] Michele Jigsaw: so that our tech people can work that out
[10:38] Legal Writer: Gee, if that can be done, I think that would help our outreach to more people.
[10:38] Morgandy Muircastle: Being able to broadcast out would be great for non-SL users.
[10:38] DanielPerry Laa: I can check with TreetTV and find out the cost if you like
[10:38] Cat Galileo: i would love to know best practices in that for our speakers series too.
[10:38] Rose Springvale: i think you can just give the url... depending on your stream limits
[10:38] Michele Jigsaw: I can tell you now
[10:38] Legal Writer: I think the #1 barrier to adoption of SL in general is people don't know how to get their computers going on it.
[10:38] Cat Galileo: i've looked into it a bit
[10:39] Michele Jigsaw: if there's a cost my school wont pick it up
[10:39] Michele Jigsaw: lol
[10:39] Michele Jigsaw: the build costs a bit
[10:39] Legal Writer: How much would the cost be?
[10:39] Michele Jigsaw: I have no good will left with the dean
[10:39] Cat Galileo: there's at least 1 free service I know of but it's pretty crappy
[10:39] DanielPerry Laa: We can find the money (sponsors, etc)
[10:39] Legal Writer: Sponsorship is possible, but we would need to know the cost.
[10:39] DanielPerry Laa: How about if we inivte your Dean to address the group? LOL
[10:40] Michele Jigsaw: lol you DONT want that!
[10:40] Rose Springvale: what are you looking for? i'm sorry, i've lost the thread somehow
[10:40] Michele Jigsaw: the costs
[10:40] Legal Writer: We could give big plugs to UF. :-)
[10:40] Rose Springvale: but i think among us we should be able to come up with all the assets
[10:40] Michele Jigsaw: the Metanomics team can tell you costs
[10:40] Michele Jigsaw: they stream every week
[10:40] Morgandy Muircastle: do you have a contact there?
[10:40] jamiebryce Infinity smiles -- also, Michele, on that, let's have Mr virtual Bar President and ABA Section Chair here write a letter on his law firm stationary to your dean thank you and the school in advance for all your help :D
[10:40] Legal Writer: Michele, would you be able to report to Morgandy on that?
[10:41] Cat Galileo: their set up is very sophisticated (& expensive) - metanomics
[10:41] Morgandy Muircastle: We just need somethin simple
[10:41] Michele Jigsaw: oh...is it Cat?
[10:41] Rose Springvale: unnecessary for a panel.. i can help you with it
[10:41] Morgandy Muircastle: we're primarily audio
[10:41] Morgandy Muircastle: not even too many power points, I hope.
[10:41] Michele Jigsaw: but it would be nice to have vdeo as well
[10:41] Michele Jigsaw: *video
[10:41] jamiebryce Infinity: Eh that is SO much more complex
[10:41] DanielPerry Laa: The fashion show had three cameras and two technicians - we would not need three cameras
[10:41] Legal Writer: I think video is key.
[10:42] DanielPerry Laa: Video IS key!
[10:42] Rose Springvale: what of? people talking?
[10:42] Michele Jigsaw: for a panel one camera is sufficient
[10:42] Legal Writer: Agreed
[10:42] Morgandy Muircastle: more war stories. Sure, Michele, it makes it a lot more interesting than a conference call.
[10:42] jamiebryce Infinity: this raises an interesting question :D are all SLBA virutal events to be voice events?
[10:42] DanielPerry Laa: To see the images of the avatars will spike interest
[10:42] Cat Galileo: people at a table making typing motions :D
[10:42] Michele Jigsaw: yes its more interesting to watch
[10:42] Michele Jigsaw: no..not just typing Cat
[10:42] Legal Writer: Agree with Daniel on that too
[10:42] Cat Galileo: i know
[10:43] Morgandy Muircastle: Do our speakers need any other scripts to be interesting speakers?
[10:43] Legal Writer: Anyhow, can we perhaps get some info to Morgandy about streaming?
[10:43] DanielPerry Laa: We should use audio and followup with a transcript
[10:43] Rose Springvale: you can have your avatars AND stream... makes it more interactive and more likely not to fail with SL issues
[10:43] jamiebryce Infinity: (I might try that Cat -- sit at my next RL conference room making typy hand mnoves, see if it makes me, um, more interesting ... or just gets me an offer of autism medication :) )
[10:43] Legal Writer: We need to move on to other topics, now.
[10:43] Michele Jigsaw: Let me talk to my tech people and Rose
[10:43] Michele Jigsaw: we will see what we can do
[10:44] Legal Writer: Can we close this discussion by having people report to Morgandy?
[10:44] Michele Jigsaw: I'm all for video because it can be posted to the law school website
[10:44] Morgandy Muircastle: ok, great, and we still need a couple volunteers to join Jamie on the first panel.
[10:44] Legal Writer: And Morgandy, may I suggest that you begin some weekly conference calls, or email meetings so that you get all the critical tasks done between now and the conference?
[10:44] Morgandy Muircastle: sure.
[10:44] Legal Writer: Or better yet, meet here. ;-)
[10:45] Legal Writer: Anyway, Morgandy, thank you for your hard work on this.
[10:45] Legal Writer: It looks like we are coming together on it.
[10:45] Morgandy Muircastle: and thanks to all of you who are pitching in.
[10:45] Legal Writer: OK, the next topic is the proposal regarding a permanent location for our association.
[10:46] Lexis Looming: I will buy Ben's book and hope it has an example of an enforceable contract
[10:46] jamiebryce Infinity: :D
[10:46] Legal Writer: Benjamin Noble has offered to provide land for our association to have an office and simply pass through the cost so that we have a location, are paying tier, and can have control over it.
[10:46] Legal Writer: We are discussing this at the board level right now.
[10:47] Legal Writer: It's not ready for discussion fully among the members.
[10:47] Legal Writer: We have some other options on the table and want to get all the new board members up to speed before making any recommendations to the members.
[10:47] DanielPerry Laa: Thanks to benjamin for that offer!
[10:47] Legal Writer: But I want you to know that we haven't forgotten about the issue, and are working on it.
[10:48] Legal Writer: We hope to have a recommendation to you soon.
[10:48] Legal Writer: Perhaps we can discuss it at the next meeting.
[10:48] Benjamin Noble: Not a big deal, if we own land directly, one of us has to float it. It's a wash for me, and it gets us land.
[10:48] Benjamin Noble: As Legal said, hopefully by the next meeting we'll have a plan.
[10:48] Legal Writer: And Ben is, in fact, very kind to make this offer.
[10:48] Legal Writer: Thank you.
[10:48] Cat Galileo: in the mean time our dues box, etc is in this building
[10:48] Legal Writer: Any questions for Ben or me on this?
[10:49] Morgandy Muircastle: Will we still be here Nov 14th?
[10:49] jamiebryce Infinity: only to add my thanks to ben for offering to step up, as an option
[10:49] Legal Writer: If Michele would like to host, we can be there on 11/14.
[10:49] DanielPerry Laa: Is Ben going to assign ownership of buildings etc to the Association?
[10:49] Legal Writer: Otherwise, this room should be available.
[10:50] Legal Writer: Ben's proposal would be to hold ownership of the land.
[10:50] Morgandy Muircastle: I mean to have a poster in the lounge between now and then. A spot people can meet if they can't get on the private island.
[10:50] Legal Writer: And simply rent this to the association.
[10:50] Cat Galileo: building perms would presumably be set to group
[10:50] Rose Springvale: just like the old days Ben :)
[10:50] Benjamin Noble: Exactly. ;)
[10:50] Legal Writer: Other discussion on this?
[10:51] Legal Writer: OK, let's move on.
[10:51] Legal Writer: We do want to talk a little about the Speaker Series.
[10:51] Legal Writer: We don't have a speaker lined up for the immediate future, but perhaps Cat or Geri can talk about medium term. I can mention a word about long-term.
[10:52] Cat Galileo: Geri?
[10:52] Geri Kuhn: I have nothing to say about the medium term but would like to start planning foro something later
[10:52] Geri Kuhn: perhaps after the conference
[10:52] Cat Galileo: Our last speaker was very successful
[10:53] Legal Writer: I think for the long-term, the good news is that we may be able to build a pipeline of speakers via collaboration with other groups.
[10:53] Cat Galileo: I can do my "web2.0 for lawyers" in Oct. perhaps, revising it now for work
[10:53] Michele Jigsaw: what kinds of things would you like speakers on?
[10:53] Cat Galileo: people are interested in both Second Life/Virtual worlds specific issues, and also general issues
[10:54] Legal Writer: As I was mentioning before, sections in the ABA may want to work with us to facilitate putting on programs to be co-sponsored with us. I think if we can get a solution that works on the web-streaming, that would be HUGE, and open the door to a much broader audiecne.
[10:54] Soro Dagostino: Enforceable contracts in SL
[10:54] Legal Writer: LOL
[10:54] Geri Kuhn grins at Soro
[10:54] Legal Writer: Actually, seriously, the enforeceable contracts issue is a recurring one, and would be good for a talk.
[10:54] Benjamin Noble: I'd like us to do a CLE "elimination of bias" one at some point, just because it's a hard credit to get in states that require it and many do.
[10:54] Geri Kuhn: Great idea Ben
[10:54] Legal Writer: Ethics is in that same catgory.
[10:55] Legal Writer: category
[10:55] Cat Galileo: good idea.
[10:55] Benjamin Noble: I did ethics last year, and am happy to do it again at some point.
[10:55] Geri Kuhn: I think I can certainly ask Carold again
[10:55] Benjamin Noble: Or Carol L., right.
[10:55] Legal Writer: In California, we have substance abuse as well.
[10:55] Benjamin Noble: I did mine specific to SL / vw issues.
[10:55] Morgandy Muircastle: the cross cultural aspects of SL is a great platform for elimination of bias.
[10:55] Geri Kuhn: Yes, very true Morgandy
[10:55] Michele Jigsaw: it could be
[10:56] Michele Jigsaw: but thats not a full reality in SL
[10:56] Michele Jigsaw: lots of bias still here
[10:56] Geri Kuhn: Yes...
[10:56] Soro Dagostino: Women's Rights in Afganistan?
[10:56] Cat Galileo: well, that's part of the point of the talk, perhaps
[10:56] Morgandy Muircastle: right, that's why we keep trying
[10:56] jamiebryce Infinity: oh i have an evil idea about eliminstion of bias :) Geri, I will pick that one up in e mail maybe
[10:56] Legal Writer: I have wondered about an elimination of bias program directed to elimination of bias against furries.
[10:56] jamiebryce Infinity: there si *plenty* of bias in SL -
[10:56] Michele Jigsaw: I recently attended a conference on uses of virtual technology in peace building
[10:56] Michele Jigsaw: it was fascinating
[10:56] Geri Kuhn smiles at Legal. Very interesting
[10:57] jamiebryce Infinity: Legal, i fyou noew what "yiff" means, you'll know that a furried issue is not just necessarily about SL animal costumes :)
[10:57] Legal Writer: Seriously, what have we done to reach out to the furry community for the sake of diversity?
[10:57] Michele Jigsaw: not just bias against furroes but against avatars of color just like in RL
[10:57] Legal Writer: Exactly
[10:57] Legal Writer: There are many issues about bias, that are different in a virtual world.
[10:58] Cat Galileo: I'm not sure what the requirements are to qualify as CLE on elim. of bias, but it could be quite interesting
[10:58] jamiebryce Infinity: let's see if some people are moved to bring us proposals on this one :)
[10:58] Legal Writer: I bet we could get some buzz about this if we offered an elim of bias course devoted to elim of bias against various kinds of avatars.
[10:58] Geri Kuhn: It would be a great talk
[10:59] Legal Writer: There are gender issues of same gender avatars in real life, and also cross-gender avatar issues.
[10:59] Geri Kuhn: Also disability issues
[11:00] Benjamin Noble: And prejudice against anonymity.
[11:00] Cat Galileo: if you have ideas on a speaker program, or want to volunteer for one, or etc, let me or Geri know.
[11:00] Legal Writer: Does anyone know some diverse avatars we could put on a panel?
[11:00] Rose Springvale: does anyone not??
[11:00] Dewey Whybrow: Not to be too boring, but how about legal aspects of RL corporate/government presence in SL.
[11:00] Michele Jigsaw: what do you mean diverse?
[11:00] Benjamin Noble: Little Grey (sp?) of the Avatar Civil Liberties Union.
[11:00] Legal Writer: I mean I hold myself out as an avatar of color, being a person of color in RL.
[11:01] jamiebryce Infinity: other than, say, the ones in this room, Legal? (faint smile)
[11:01] Legal Writer: Anyone know lawyers who have furry avatars?
[11:01] Michele Jigsaw: .sigh
[11:01] Michele Jigsaw: is that our definition of diversity here? furry?
[11:02] Legal Writer: No.
[11:02] Legal Writer: We could have all kinds of avatars like what we listed earlier.
[11:02] Legal Writer: But I think a program that included a panel of various kinds of folks/avatars that included a furry would get a lot of publicity.
[11:02] Cat Galileo: furry is one community, gender issues, avatars of color/people of color, international, religious, lifestyle/sexual style, etc
[11:03] Cat Galileo: non-human ?
[11:03] DanielPerry Laa: Sorrty, but the furry presence may put some attendees off - until they becoem familiar with the culture
[11:03] Soro Dagostino: Hmmm, isn't there one big difference in SL?
[11:03] Cat Galileo: you choose your avatar?
[11:03] Soro Dagostino: Everyone has a choice.
[11:04] Cat Galileo: that in itself is intreresting as a reflection of RL attitudes, etc
[11:04] Soro Dagostino: In RL, you don't.
[11:04] Legal Writer: I should add that part of our mission is to break down barriers and to reach out to a diverse group.
[11:04] DanielPerry Laa: If we want to keep interest we should probably stick to humanoids (did I really just write that?)
[11:04] Legal Writer: Not sure that I agree, Daniel.
[11:04] Benjamin Noble: And even within SL, there are issues such as between anonymous and identified avatars.
[11:04] Cat Galileo: you choose your avi, and you can change accd. to mood
[11:05] Rose Springvale: oh, you might start that way, and have your panel switch skins as the program progresses..
[11:05] Benjamin Noble: I think former board member Jessica might be good to talk about that
[11:05] Cat Galileo: anyway - this is an interesting discussion, sounds like we could have a lively debate
[11:05] jamiebryce Infinity: um .. kids .. insteda of writing a syllabus on the fly here, can we get some program proposals sent in?
[11:05] Dewey Whybrow: If folks are interested in religion/faith issues, I'd be happy to coordinate with folks from the Anglican Cathedral
[11:05] Cat Galileo: in interest of time tho let's move on
[11:05] Cat Galileo: http://slbarassn.ning.com/group/speakerseries
[11:05] DanielPerry Laa: Switching skins might be a great idea!
[11:05] Cat Galileo: is a forum I just set up to discuss
[11:05] Legal Writer: Anyway, we are past our time. If people can discuss with Cat about possible speakers, that would be great.
[11:05] jamiebryce Infinity: excellent :)
[11:05] Rose Springvale: we have a nice resource in Al andalus for religious diversity if you wish
[11:06] Benjamin Noble: good plan
[11:06] Legal Writer: OK, I want to mention that I have not had time for more incorporation work this past month, with two out of town trips for the ABA.
[11:06] Legal Writer: But I will post a new copy of the bylaws for review after I have incorporated the latest comments.
[11:06] Legal Writer: And my hope is that we will have a copy to vote on, or at least discuss next month.
[11:07] Legal Writer: OK, is there any other business before we close?
[11:07] DanielPerry Laa: Some of us are goign to stick around to talk with Morgandy
[11:07] Morgandy Muircastle: All input is welcome.
[11:08] Legal Writer: Super
[11:08] Legal Writer: OK, is there a motion to adjourn?
[11:08] Morgandy Muircastle: I so move
[11:08] Geri Kuhn: So moved
[11:08] Benjamin Noble seconds.
[11:08] Legal Writer: Second?
[11:08] Benjamin Noble seconded...
[11:08] Legal Writer: OK, all in favor say "aye"
[11:09] Rose Springvale: aye
[11:09] Geri Kuhn: aye
[11:09] Lexis Looming: Good meeting Legal! aye
[11:09] Cat Galileo: aye
[11:09] Benjamin Noble: Aye. Bye all. Off to the zoo.
