Oct. 10, 2009

[2009/10/10 10:06]  Legal Writer: Good morning, everyone.
[2009/10/10 10:06]  Legal Writer: Let's get started.
[2009/10/10 10:07]  Legal Writer: Ben, are you going to record a transcript? I just recorded one for the board meeting.
[2009/10/10 10:07]  Legal Writer: To remind everyone, a transcript of this meeting will be posted on the SLBA website after the meeting.
[2009/10/10 10:08]  Legal Writer: I hope everyone had an enjoyable end of summer season.
[2009/10/10 10:08]  Benjamin Noble: I'll record the transcript.
[2009/10/10 10:08]  Legal Writer: Thanks, Ben.
[2009/10/10 10:09]  Legal Writer: I sent around an agenda, and the first item on the agenda is the Careers Fair, which will take place on Nov. 14, after our regular meeting.
[2009/10/10 10:10]  Legal Writer: Morgandy Muircastle has been organizing everything, with the help of various people. So I first want to thank her for her efforts. And second, Morgandy, can you please give us a status update? What more do you need in terms of logistical help?
[2009/10/10 10:10]  Morgandy Muircastle: Sure, thanks, and also thanks the folks helping behind the scenes.
[2009/10/10 10:10]  Morgandy Muircastle: I contacted the ABA YLD and Student divisions.
[2009/10/10 10:11]  Morgandy Muircastle: They are interested, but not as well connected as we had hoped.
[2009/10/10 10:11]  Morgandy Muircastle: DanPerry has offered to help build an emaail list from law school lists
[2009/10/10 10:12]  Morgandy Muircastle: We will be recording the sessions for podcast/download, incase we end up getting more interest later.
[2009/10/10 10:12]  Morgandy Muircastle: I would like an invite to go out to the SLBA and forum members, with a request to sign up so we can get them on the list for a guest list. So long as we have their avatar name, the sign up can be through Ning. Or they can just email us at slbaconference@gmail.com, or IM Michele Jigsaw.
[2009/10/10 10:12]  Morgandy Muircastle: We encourage all of the SLBA members to come participate in the discussion. These are not hour long presentations, but rather hour long discussions roughly focused on a couple different aspects of practice.
[2009/10/10 10:12]  Morgandy Muircastle: I will send out an email this weekend to the presenters, summarizing how things will roll, what topics I have them down for, and asking for a bullet list of additional points or topics they wouldn't mind having a question on.
[2009/10/10 10:13]  Michele Jigsaw: our law school has finally decided this is an important event so if the presenters can send me a short bio that would be very good
[2009/10/10 10:13]  Michele Jigsaw: we may get some press out of it
[2009/10/10 10:13]  Morgandy Muircastle: OK, I'll ask for that, as well.
[2009/10/10 10:14]  Morgandy Muircastle: Anything else from your side Michele?
[2009/10/10 10:14]  Michele Jigsaw: you mentioned the podcast
[2009/10/10 10:14]  Morgandy Muircastle: yes, but we have not found any vendor who will come to Gator Island
[2009/10/10 10:14]  Lexis Looming: That will be helpful I will IM my email addreess in case you don't have it
[2009/10/10 10:14]  Morgandy Muircastle: Has UF done a wecast from the Island before?
[2009/10/10 10:14]  Michele Jigsaw: ok...we may be abl eto handle that on theisland
[2009/10/10 10:15]  Michele Jigsaw: they have streaming capabilities so Im trying to chase that down
[2009/10/10 10:15]  Morgandy Muircastle: great, we'd like to have it realtime, as well as download later
[2009/10/10 10:16]  Morgandy Muircastle: I think that's about it, just to get the word out, and please come participate so we have a great discussion, and people can see what an interesting group it is.
[2009/10/10 10:16]  Legal Writer: So just to confirm, we are meeting in this room? And it's at 12 pm SLT, correct?
[2009/10/10 10:16]  Michele Jigsaw: no
[2009/10/10 10:16]  Michele Jigsaw: oh maybe
[2009/10/10 10:16]  Higgs Wopat: What day?
[2009/10/10 10:17]  Michele Jigsaw: the panel is at Gator Nation ISland
[2009/10/10 10:17]  Morgandy Muircastle: We meet here for the SLBA at 10 am.
[2009/10/10 10:17]  Legal Writer: OK, then we will need to give people a landmark
[2009/10/10 10:17]  Morgandy Muircastle: 12 noon on Nov 14 at Gator Nation Island, but it's private, so we need your avatar name and Michele will give you a pass
[2009/10/10 10:17]  Higgs Wopat: Great
[2009/10/10 10:18]  jamiebryce Infinity chuckles. What a great sim name
[2009/10/10 10:18]  Sam4 Courtois: How do we sing up?
[2009/10/10 10:18]  Sam4 Courtois: sign
[2009/10/10 10:18]  Michele Jigsaw: i can do the passes the day of the event..well you know Univ of FL...Gator chomp
[2009/10/10 10:18]  Legal Writer: I am wondering whether before the conference, we should post someone here so that in case anyone shows at the last minute, that person won't have difficulty attending
[2009/10/10 10:18]  Michele Jigsaw: just send me a note saying you want a guest tag
[2009/10/10 10:18]  Morgandy Muircastle: IM Michele, or email me at SLBAconference@gmail.com, or sign up on Ning
[2009/10/10 10:19]  Morgandy Muircastle: Yes, I would like someone here, and a sign in the lobby would be great, too.
[2009/10/10 10:19]  Legal Writer: OK, in terms of logistics, are we all set, or do you need more help?
[2009/10/10 10:20]  Morgandy Muircastle: I'd like to ask DanielPerry if he thinks we need help with the email contacts, or if he has an idea for automating that.
[2009/10/10 10:20]  DanielPerry Laa: I am prettu sure I have tht covered but will let you now if necessary to get more help
[2009/10/10 10:21]  Higgs Wopat: Thanks for all of your work on this !
[2009/10/10 10:21]  jamiebryce Infinity: May I make a quick suggestion?
[2009/10/10 10:21]  Legal Writer: OK, anything else we should cover?
[2009/10/10 10:21]  Morgandy Muircastle: ok, I'd also like to suggest that people try out their audio after the meeting next month.
[2009/10/10 10:21]  Morgandy Muircastle: Jamie?
[2009/10/10 10:21]  jamiebryce Infinity: A typical way to widely publicise SL events is to create a copiable poster that gives a LM and/or notecard
[2009/10/10 10:22]  jamiebryce Infinity: then folks can take them and set up a copy wherever
[2009/10/10 10:22]  Morgandy Muircastle: I have a poster, but don't know how to do that. Can I email it to you?
[2009/10/10 10:22]  Michele Jigsaw: make an object
[2009/10/10 10:22]  jamiebryce Infinity: If you nwed help with that, let me know -- would let SLBA members help you spread the word
[2009/10/10 10:22]  Michele Jigsaw: put LM into object in content
[2009/10/10 10:22]  Legal Writer: Thanks, Jamie. Sounds like a big help
[2009/10/10 10:22]  Rose Springvale: but is that wise if the event isn't open to everyone?
[2009/10/10 10:23]  jamiebryce Infinity: Happy to take it offline with Morgan
[2009/10/10 10:23]  Michele Jigsaw: use poster as texture for the object
[2009/10/10 10:23]  Lexis Looming: excellent idea and we can then distribute it by Notice to all members when it is functional
[2009/10/10 10:23]  Jaxom Winger: If you'll give me the poster, I can make it right now.
[2009/10/10 10:23]  Michele Jigsaw: the event is open to everyone they just need a guest tag
[2009/10/10 10:23]  Legal Writer: OK, we need to move on to other business.
[2009/10/10 10:23]  DanielPerry Laa: Wouls also help if anyone here who blogs remeebrs thta this would make a great blog entry on your own blog!
[2009/10/10 10:24]  jamiebryce Infinity: I'll suggest that this be put in the notecard, and the completed poster distributed to SLBA membets via a "bluescreen" group notice
[2009/10/10 10:24]  Legal Writer: Good point, Daniel
[2009/10/10 10:24]  Legal Writer: OK, thanks everyone. Morgandy, please let us know if you need additional help at any time.
[2009/10/10 10:24]  Morgandy Muircastle: Thanks.
[2009/10/10 10:25]  Lexis Looming: and all on twitter can tweet too
[2009/10/10 10:25]  Legal Writer: OK, the next item on the agenda is Benjamin Noble's proposal to transition our temporary location here to a permanent location. He would purchase the land, and pass along the cost for us to pay tier, at no markup.
[2009/10/10 10:26]  Legal Writer: Ben, can you please describe it a little more? It is the sense of the board that we should move forward with this proposal, since we do want to have a permanent home.
[2009/10/10 10:26]  jamiebryce Infinity smiles, raises hands for questions when done.
[2009/10/10 10:26]  Benjamin Noble: Sure. Basically, we have plenty of money to cover tier on a plot of land where we could have an office.
[2009/10/10 10:27]  Benjamin Noble: I'm willing to buy the land and indefinitely lease it to the organization for the tier cost, so don't have ongoing expenses.
[2009/10/10 10:27]  Benjamin Noble: That gives us a permanent home.
[2009/10/10 10:27]  Aisln Baxton: how big a piece of land
[2009/10/10 10:27]  Legal Writer: We also would be open to having builders give us propsals for a building.
[2009/10/10 10:27]  Legal Writer: We could also do prefab.
[2009/10/10 10:27]  Benjamin Noble: We're going to work with a builder to make sure we get the right size, but probably 2048-4096.
[2009/10/10 10:28]  Lexis Looming: We will go with mainland so not to be at the mercy of an estate owner
[2009/10/10 10:28]  Legal Writer: The purpose for our mentioning it now is to get your feedback. Do people have some thoughts about this idea?
[2009/10/10 10:28]  Benjamin Noble: 2048 is most likely. That's 468 prims.
[2009/10/10 10:28]  Sam4 Courtois: How much for 4096?
[2009/10/10 10:28]  Aisln Baxton: has the possibility of educational discount been looked into
[2009/10/10 10:28]  Legal Writer: Ben, can you mention your thoughts about whether these prims are sufficient?
[2009/10/10 10:29]  Michele Jigsaw: I think its a good idea. eliminates the need to move every time something happens to the estate owener
[2009/10/10 10:29]  Benjamin Noble: 2048 is $15 a month. 4096 is $25. I'm more comfortable that we can sustain 2048.
[2009/10/10 10:29]  Vaki Zenovka comments, as an aside -- "This is excellent timing to buy land, as I understand it. Land values are very low right now, because of the move of adult content to Zindra."
[2009/10/10 10:29]  Michele Jigsaw: how many prims did we use at the old place?
[2009/10/10 10:29]  Soro Dagostino raises hand
[2009/10/10 10:29]  Benjamin Noble: A few more, but many were not necessary (e.g. the chairs were clocking in at 40 or so each).
[2009/10/10 10:29]  Legal Writer: All, please go ahead and jump in with your comments.
[2009/10/10 10:30]  Soro Dagostino raises hand
[2009/10/10 10:30]  Benjamin Noble: My preliminary look says we can easily do it with ~468 prims.
[2009/10/10 10:30]  DanielPerry Laa: Can't we stay here?
[2009/10/10 10:30]  Aisln Baxton: sculpts cut down on prims but number of avs that can be there needs to be considered perhaps
[2009/10/10 10:30]  Sam4 Courtois: Mr. President, is a motion in order?
[2009/10/10 10:30]  Legal Writer: Cat has a very nice relationship with the owner here, but truly it is not our own space.
[2009/10/10 10:30]  Soro Dagostino raises hand.
[2009/10/10 10:30]  Benjamin Noble: There are some questions, I think.
[2009/10/10 10:30]  Rose Springvale: would like to hear the rest of the discussion please before motions
[2009/10/10 10:30]  Michele Jigsaw: just speak SOro
[2009/10/10 10:30]  Michele Jigsaw: we are virtual
[2009/10/10 10:30]  jamiebryce Infinity politely waits in queue with the others, for when Ben is done with his initial report
[2009/10/10 10:31]  Soro Dagostino joins Jamiebryce
[2009/10/10 10:31]  Benjamin Noble: I am done. Thanks.
[2009/10/10 10:31]  jamiebryce Infinity: C'mon Mr chair :) do some chairing please
[2009/10/10 10:31]  DanielPerry Laa: Sorry, thought he said to ask away - will wait turn
[2009/10/10 10:31]  Legal Writer: Please go ahead with your comments.
[2009/10/10 10:31]  jamiebryce Infinity: i.e., speaking order please
[2009/10/10 10:31]  jamiebryce Infinity: right
[2009/10/10 10:31]  Legal Writer: Jamie, go ahead, and then Soro
[2009/10/10 10:31]  jamiebryce Infinity: thanks - It's possible that I missed the board discussed where that 'sense" was reached, so apologies if I am going over something that a few already have discussed :)
[2009/10/10 10:32]  jamiebryce Infinity: I have two thoughts.
[2009/10/10 10:32]  jamiebryce Infinity: One is that a concern originally against this space was its strong alignment vis the (very nice and gracious lawyer) estate owner with the Metaverse Republic project she supports - and houses next door. Has that been addressed, and how? I recall Ben personally felt strongly about NOT putting us anyweher that aligned us with a group, at prior points. My second concern related to the exact way property is owned, and probably is more important., but I wanted to ask about this one first.
[2009/10/10 10:32]  jamiebryce Infinity: so - why MR? Or this estate anyway?
[2009/10/10 10:33]  Legal Writer: I think what we are talking about is going someplace new, where there wouldn't be any ties to existing organizations by the landlord
[2009/10/10 10:33]  Legal Writer: That's the essence of Ben's proposal
[2009/10/10 10:33]  jamiebryce Infinity: Oh? i thought I heard Ben say this temp lease would be made permanent?
[2009/10/10 10:33]  Benjamin Noble: I think the proposal is that we find new mainland and move from here. That's my understanding.
[2009/10/10 10:33]  Benjamin Noble: No.
[2009/10/10 10:33]  jamiebryce Infinity: ok ok thx for the clarity
[2009/10/10 10:33]  Vaki Zenovka nods.
[2009/10/10 10:34]  jamiebryce Infinity: so here's #2 :)
[2009/10/10 10:34]  jamiebryce Infinity: and I apologize in advance to Ben
[2009/10/10 10:34]  Benjamin Noble: No problem at all.
[2009/10/10 10:34]  jamiebryce Infinity: whose work, and contributions to creating SLBA incidentally, I appreciate & adioe
[2009/10/10 10:34]  jamiebryce Infinity: but :D
[2009/10/10 10:35]  Benjamin Noble: I'm offering to facilitate what the group wants, I don't really have a horse in the race here. So whatever the group wants is fine.
[2009/10/10 10:35]  jamiebryce Infinity: muist the group, and the land, all stay in his avatar's personal owenership forever? My experience of some years in Sl is that group ownership is better for ...
[2009/10/10 10:35]  jamiebryce Infinity: continuity
[2009/10/10 10:35]  jamiebryce Infinity: sudden deaths
[2009/10/10 10:35]  jamiebryce Infinity: all sorts of unforseen things
[2009/10/10 10:35]  Benjamin Noble: Sure. I don't mind discussing my eventual demise. ;)
[2009/10/10 10:35]  Legal Writer: I am sure we can facilitate disaster preparedness.
[2009/10/10 10:35]  jamiebryce Infinity: form a "corporate planning" pioint of view, can we not create an SL administrative alt, so that the ownership attributes can be passed around as elections proceed over the years?
[2009/10/10 10:36]  Soro Dagostino agrees with Jamiebryce
[2009/10/10 10:36]  Benjamin Noble: I'm happy to transition it out. The issue is with the group tools, which require a single owner.
[2009/10/10 10:36]  Jaxom Winger: My friend has a service for that, but I digress. The group SLBA should own it.
[2009/10/10 10:36]  Higgs Wopat: What are we really talking about "owning" here anyway? Is it graphical reps of information?
[2009/10/10 10:36]  jamiebryce Infinity: note, Ben is doign all this out of the best of motives! Ut's just, I have seen other projects meet disaster when that person happens to, oh, I dunno, fall sick or some such
[2009/10/10 10:36]  jamiebryce Infinity: Higgs :) In SL, there are owners of record of land and groups :)
[2009/10/10 10:36]  Lexis Looming: Land can not be group owned
[2009/10/10 10:36]  Vaki Zenovka grins. "Always nice to have a Hit By A Bus scenario."
[2009/10/10 10:36]  Michele Jigsaw: but LL wants a human being as principle owner
[2009/10/10 10:36]  Soro Dagostino: /smiles -- yest it can
[2009/10/10 10:37]  Higgs Wopat: I understand the formalities. My question is whether it really matters to the organization
[2009/10/10 10:37]  Lexis Looming: must be tied to one individual..on the Linden's books
[2009/10/10 10:37]  Michele Jigsaw: even if the group has privileges
[2009/10/10 10:37]  Soro Dagostino: Non-profit
[2009/10/10 10:37]  jamiebryce Infinity: um :) with respect. soe of us have been doing this a long time
[2009/10/10 10:37]  Aisln Baxton: mainland can be group owned
[2009/10/10 10:37]  Aisln Baxton: tiers are assessed to the owner or members responsible for liabilities
[2009/10/10 10:37]  jamiebryce Infinity: this is not at all to say ben's proposal is a bad one =- just that I would like the executive board - at, ah, a duly called meeting - to work on the detailes of vesting
[2009/10/10 10:37]  DanielPerry Laa: Why can't the ownership be tied to the Registered Agent or officer of SLBA, Inc?
[2009/10/10 10:37]  Jaxom Winger: Someone has to donate tier to the gropu, but then the group owns it. You get a 10% bonus in your level for group ownershp.
[2009/10/10 10:38]  Michele Jigsaw: if you know how to make the group the payee why not just say how that is done
[2009/10/10 10:38]  Michele Jigsaw: I always though the land could be deeded but a person had to be financially responsible
[2009/10/10 10:38]  jamiebryce Infinity smiles. Details maybe best delegated to a small group?
[2009/10/10 10:38]  Lexis Looming: The lindens want a credit card to debit
[2009/10/10 10:38]  Legal Writer: We've been doing the small group discussion route since the spring, but can't seem to come to closure.
[2009/10/10 10:38]  Rose Springvale: I move we return the issue to committee for further discussion
[2009/10/10 10:39]  Aisln Baxton: the land is deeded to the group and the tiers are assessed to the owner/membership as the group is set up
[2009/10/10 10:39]  Lexis Looming: on theSL side it can be group owned. On the Linden books it has to have a real credit card
[2009/10/10 10:39]  Lexis Looming: or pay pal
[2009/10/10 10:39]  Michele Jigsaw: exactly
[2009/10/10 10:40]  jamiebryce Infinity would secodn that motionif anyone around here uses any rules of order
[2009/10/10 10:40]  Aisln Baxton: the real credit card is that of the owner or group members responsible for liablities and the tiers are assessed on their accounts
[2009/10/10 10:40]  DanielPerry Laa: What was the motion?
[2009/10/10 10:40]  jamiebryce Infinity: .. . which frankly is not too clear to him
[2009/10/10 10:40]  Rose Springvale: tabel to committee. I thought we now had a corporation
[2009/10/10 10:40]  Rose Springvale: and all assets should be owned by it
[2009/10/10 10:40]  Soro Dagostino: A group of lawyer -- Roberts Rules? LOL
[2009/10/10 10:40]  Sam4 Courtois: Point of information? Exactly how does LL know whether the nominal owner is an individual or a group unless we tell them?
[2009/10/10 10:40]  Rose Springvale: so clearly we are n't ready
[2009/10/10 10:41]  Aisln Baxton: the title is listed as group owned...trace to group membership information
[2009/10/10 10:41]  Legal Writer: OK, it sounds like we need to have another round with the small group and table this for now with the large group.
[2009/10/10 10:41]  Benjamin Noble: Is there a thread in the forums on this?
[2009/10/10 10:42]  Benjamin Noble: It seems like there are many questions that could actually have answers.
[2009/10/10 10:42]  Michele Jigsaw: it shouldnt talk too long. Just get the correct details on group ownership
[2009/10/10 10:42]  Legal Writer: Ben, do you have some time to put something on paper addressing the issues brought up today?
[2009/10/10 10:42]  jamiebryce Infinity smiles, and stands up wondering if that helps -- Mr Chair would you plase give us direction whether to vote on or discuss or do otherwise with the motion, or whether motions are used here?
[2009/10/10 10:42]  Benjamin Noble: Yes. I'll figure out exactly how group shared costs for land work and post in the forums regarding that.
[2009/10/10 10:42]  Benjamin Noble: Legal - there is a motion pending.
[2009/10/10 10:42]  Legal Writer: And people can communicate with Ben on this.
[2009/10/10 10:42]  DanielPerry Laa: And there was a second
[2009/10/10 10:43]  Legal Writer: I did not hear a motion, just a call for a motion. What is the motion and who is making it?
[2009/10/10 10:43]  Lexis Looming: a motion to table has priority
[2009/10/10 10:43]  Rose Springvale: i madeit
[2009/10/10 10:43]  jamiebryce Infinity smiles -- is this attention getting device working? I'm mot known for subtlety. I could do a jig, maybe.
[2009/10/10 10:43]  Sam4 Courtois: Theoretically, a motion to lay on the table ahs precedence
[2009/10/10 10:43]  Benjamin Noble: Rose Springvale: I move we return the issue to committee for further discussion
[2009/10/10 10:43]  DanielPerry Laa: Seconded
[2009/10/10 10:43]  Legal Writer: Any last discussion on this point?

[2009/10/10 10:45]  Benjamin Noble: I'm going to get the discussion going in the forums. Let's try to get all opinions in on this over the next month, and then people can make formal proposals at the next meeting.
[2009/10/10 10:45]  Rose Springvale: may i ask
[2009/10/10 10:45]  Legal Writer: OK, the motion carries. The land qustion is tabled so that Ben's small group can put in writing a proposal for the board to consider at its 9:30 monthly meeting on Nov. 14.

[2009/10/10 10:46]  Legal Writer: Is the speaker series. Both Cat and Geri are gone, but I am sure that we would be delighted to hear from anyone who wants to get in the queue to speak before the group.

[2009/10/10 10:47]  Legal Writer: I should also mention that Ben, Vaki, and I were at the Engage Expo conference in San Jose recently, and I think it was a terrific program on virtual law issues.
[2009/10/10 10:47]  jamiebryce Infinity: Well, dance lessons anyway
[2009/10/10 10:47]  Sam4 Courtois: alright!

[2009/10/10 10:47]  Benjamin Noble: I'm not sure that anyone else can speak on the speaker series, Legal.
[2009/10/10 10:48]  Legal Writer: Some of the speakers there may be good candidates to come and talk to our group.
[2009/10/10 10:49]  Legal Writer: The speaker on discipline, Carol, was a speaker at the conference and it was nice meeting her in person.
[2009/10/10 10:49]  Legal Writer: That is, she gave a presentation to us before the conference.
[2009/10/10 10:49]  Legal Writer: In any case, please IM Cat Galileo if you have any ideas for speakers in the future.
[2009/10/10 10:50]  Higgs Wopat: What types of presentations are we looking for? substantive legal topics, practice topics, technology generally, etc?
[2009/10/10 10:50]  Lexis Looming gave you Lexis Looming RL Business Card.
[2009/10/10 10:50]  Legal Writer: OK, the next item of business, and I am going to switch order here, is a holiday party. Geri Kuhn has volunteered to head up a committee to have a holiday party.
[2009/10/10 10:50]  Legal Writer: Higgs, any topics broadly of interest to our group are OK.
[2009/10/10 10:50]  Higgs Wopat: Great. Thanks. I will ask around.
[2009/10/10 10:51]  Vaki Zenovka adds: Carol was fantastic, and spoke with me after her presentation at the Expo. She has since agreed to present at SCU for us.
[2009/10/10 10:51]  Legal Writer: OK, back to the holiday party. Geri would like to hear from people who can help organize the holiday party.
[2009/10/10 10:51]  DanielPerry Laa: SCU?
[2009/10/10 10:51]  jamiebryce Infinity: Got a venue yet? I liked both the place we went in 07 (a former board member's joint) and Rose's castle venue last year myself

[2009/10/10 10:51]  Legal Writer: Please IM Geri Kuhn if you have ideas or can help out.
[2009/10/10 10:51]  jamiebryce Infinity: Henri :)
[2009/10/10 10:51]  Legal Writer: Also, I would like to present to you her request for funding for the party.
[2009/10/10 10:52]  Legal Writer: She has asked that the large group authorize a budget of $30 US for spending on a party.
[2009/10/10 10:52]  DanielPerry Laa: Any sponsors for the party?
[2009/10/10 10:52]  Legal Writer: That is her estimate for what it would cost.
[2009/10/10 10:52]  Legal Writer: We might be able to find sponsors for it over time, but she wanted a green light from us to know that the money is authorized.
[2009/10/10 10:52]  jamiebryce Infinity: Need a motion to approve it?
[2009/10/10 10:53]  Legal Writer: Are there any thoughts about this budge? A motion to approve?
[2009/10/10 10:53]  Rose Springvale: curious what costs 30 bucks, but no issues with it
[2009/10/10 10:53]  Lexis Looming: I mo e we authorize the budget of $30 USD (approx $7500L)

[2009/10/10 10:55]  Legal Writer: OK, the motion carries.
[2009/10/10 10:55]  Lexis Looming: we can't agree sometimes, but we sure can agree fast to have a party!!!!! This is a great group!!!LOL
[2009/10/10 10:55]  Vaki Zenovka grins at Lexis.
[2009/10/10 10:55]  Rose Springvale whispers: lawyers :)
[2009/10/10 10:55]  Sam4 Courtois: Only for a Halloween party, ben
[2009/10/10 10:55]  Legal Writer: OK, the next item is the Sections of the association.
[2009/10/10 10:55]  Legal Writer: We have various sections within the association, including litigation and business.
[2009/10/10 10:56]  Legal Writer: They are set up on the forums.
[2009/10/10 10:56]  DanielPerry Laa: Zombie Lawyers?!
[2009/10/10 10:56]  Legal Writer: But they haven't been too active. I would like to see the sections catalyzed.
[2009/10/10 10:56]  Legal Writer: And in the past, we have had people express interest in leading sections, but it hasn't been possible to follow up to date.
[2009/10/10 10:57]  Legal Writer: Higgs Wopat has agreed to act as "Section Catalyst" not to run the sections himself, but to find people who want to head sections and recommend section chairs to the Board.
[2009/10/10 10:57]  Legal Writer: So I thank Higgs Wopat.
[2009/10/10 10:57]  DanielPerry Laa: Thanks, Higgs!
[2009/10/10 10:57]  Higgs Wopat: My pleasure
[2009/10/10 10:57]  Benjamin Noble: Thanks, Higgs. Good idea.
[2009/10/10 10:57]  Legal Writer: And ask that you contact Higgs if you want to run a section. See the forums for the details of which sections we have.
[2009/10/10 10:58]  Legal Writer: Higgs and I can speak offline and then pass along to the board a slate of possible section chairs.
[2009/10/10 10:58]  Legal Writer: And we will discuss it at our next board meeting at 9:30 am SLT Sat. Nov. 14 at Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP's offices.
[2009/10/10 10:59]  Legal Writer: OK, I want to mention that the last item, incorporation, requires some more discussion.
[2009/10/10 10:59]  Legal Writer: Right now, only Lexis Looming and Alexei Skjellerup have made comments on the bylaws.
[2009/10/10 11:00]  Legal Writer: But we would like your comments on them.
[2009/10/10 11:00]  Legal Writer: Please go to the SLBA General Discussions Forums -> SLBA Administration -> Proposed Bylaws to comment on the bylaws further. I will post the issues as I see them. We would like the board to vote to approve the bylaws next meeting.
[2009/10/10 11:01]  Legal Writer: After that, are there any other items we need to discuss before leaving?
[2009/10/10 11:01]  Sam4 Courtois: Is it not the case that slience is acquiescence?
[2009/10/10 11:01]  Legal Writer: I am afraid I don't think that the larger group would want that, Sam.
[2009/10/10 11:01]  Benjamin Noble: Given that some people don't log in often, I think it's a good idea to give lots of time to everyone to weigh in on big changes.
[2009/10/10 11:01]  Legal Writer: OK, is there a motion to adjourn?
[2009/10/10 11:01]  Rose Springvale: so move
[2009/10/10 11:02]  Legal Writer: Second?
[2009/10/10 11:02]  Sam4 Courtois: Sorry, but I think we are looking at the "larger group" right now
[2009/10/10 11:02]  Legal Writer: I was willing to go through the six or so issues before the larger group, but right now many have left and also we're out of time.
[2009/10/10 11:02]  Higgs Wopat: LW: Let's discuss bylaws offline. Some of the folks at Harvard Berkman Center have been working with online organizations. It might be interesting to chat with them
[2009/10/10 11:02]  Legal Writer: There is a motion. Any second?
[2009/10/10 11:03]  Benjamin Noble: Second.
[2009/10/10 11:03]  Vaki Zenovka: Third!

[2009/10/10 11:03]  Vaki Zenovka: I definitely want to see a jig.
[2009/10/10 11:03]  Legal Writer: Any opposed?
[2009/10/10 11:04]  Legal Writer: Any abstentions?
[2009/10/10 11:04]  Rose Springvale: to jamie jigging?
[2009/10/10 11:04]  Higgs Wopat: second on the jig
[2009/10/10 11:04]  Legal Writer: OK, the motion carries. This meeting is adjourned.
