[10:06]  Benjamin Noble: /claps. Very cool!
[10:07]  Lexis Looming: is there a hockey game here?
[10:07]  Legal Writer: I am also looking forward to more fruitful collaboration with the University of Florida. And we want to thank the law school for hosting our conference.
[10:07]  Michele Jigsaw: any time
[10:07]  Higgs Wopat: Thanks U of Florida!
[10:08]  Legal Writer: Michele Jigsaw is representing the Fredric G. Levin College of Law at the University and we thank her for facilitating this conference.
[10:08]  Legal Writer: As well as thanking the school.
[10:08]  Lexis Looming applauds Michell and University of Florida
[10:08]  Higgs Wopat: Second!
[10:08]  Legal Writer: So, let's jump right in. Morgandy, can you please tell us what we can look forward to after this meeting is over regarding the conference?
[10:09]  Morgandy Muircastle: There will be a short break, but those of you speaking should come over directly for sound check.
[10:09]  Morgandy Muircastle: For the rest of you, I hope you will join us.
[10:10]  Legal Writer: Would you like to go over the conference agenda?
[10:10]  Lexis Looming: when will we get our passes?
[10:10]  Michele Jigsaw: you already have it Lexis
[10:10]  Morgandy Muircastle: There will be 5 speakers on two panels,
[10:10]  Michele Jigsaw: its the group tag
[10:10]  Lexis Looming: thank you
[10:10]  Racheal Chevalier: Thanks for the pass btw
[10:10]  Morgandy Muircastle: The first panel is more about practice issues
[10:10]  Morgandy Muircastle: The second is more about substantive issues.
[10:11]  Legal Writer: And the first panel is from 12-1 and the section one is from 1-2 SLT.
[10:11]  Legal Writer: Afterwards, we will have a mixer/reception.
[10:11]  Morgandy Muircastle: And I know from the attendence list that there should be a great discussion about the topics introduced by the speakers.
[10:11]  Legal Writer: Until 2:30 or so.
[10:11]  Legal Writer: We have some terrific speakers lined up.
[10:11]  Legal Writer: And I hope you all can attend.
[10:11]  Morgandy Muircastle: That's right. We have a number of new people joining us, so it would be great for the SLBA members to stay and say hi to them
[10:11]  Soro Dagostino: That's not today?
[10:12]  Legal Writer: It's today
[10:12]  Soro Dagostino: Hmmm, thought it was one hour?
[10:12]  Morgandy Muircastle: I just got your email Soro, Michele will get yo u a pass
[10:12]  Legal Writer: Morgandy, if people here are unfamiliar with the conference, how can they arrange to attend?
[10:12]  Baeric Constantine: A pass for what, please? If for conference - I thought I had registered for it
[10:13]  Morgandy Muircastle: Well, I'll ask Michele if she wants direct IMs or for me to collect the names
[10:13]  Benjamin Noble: (Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's just an invite to the group so you have the right tag to get on the law school's build)
[10:13]  Michele Jigsaw: those who havent registered please send me your names so you can get a group tag
[10:13]  Legal Writer: Looks like you can RSVP with your avatar name and ask any questions by sending email to slbaconference@gmail.com or IM Michele Jigsaw.
[10:14]  Michele Jigsaw: caution however..we have 35 people registered
[10:14]  Legal Writer: I am reading from the invitation form.
[10:14]  jamiebryce Infinity: yay :)
[10:14]  jamiebryce Infinity: what's the sim limit over there? 42?
[10:14]  Michele Jigsaw: and we can probably hold 50 but after that the lag will kill us
[10:14]  Morgandy Muircastle: At this point, IM Michele so she gets it direct instead of through me.
[10:14]  Morgandy Muircastle: We'll see if everyone registered comes.
[10:15]  Benjamin Noble: Wow. Great! I'm only going to be able to be there for a bit unfortunateloy, so that's one slot that will open.
[10:15]  Cat Galileo: are you counting the folks who are registered via the ning site?
[10:16]  Morgandy Muircastle: yes, I added the folks from the Ning Site
[10:16]  Legal Writer: So to recap, the first panel will discuss the practice issues unique to virtual worlds settings, such as the issues involved in representing individuals or entities. And the second panel will talk about contracts, business transactions, and intellectual property issues -- that is substantitive legal issues -- in connection with the use of virtual worlds.
[10:16]  Legal Writer: Please come if you can, and hopefully, we won't exceed our limit of avatars. :-))
[10:16]  Higgs Wopat: Will the proceedings be recorded?
[10:16]  Legal Writer: OK, are there any questions, before we move on?
[10:17]  Michele Jigsaw: filmed
[10:17]  Higgs Wopat: Thanks
[10:17]  Vaki Zenovka mental notes: low ARC for this, then. Good to know.
[10:17]  Legal Writer: Will there by access to the film afterwoards?
[10:17]  Morgandy Muircastle: And I've had a request for transcription from a deaf avatar.
[10:17]  Michele Jigsaw: hopeully you will put it on the SLBA website
[10:17]  Legal Writer: We would be delighted to.
[10:17]  Morgandy Muircastle: Yes, we'll put it on the site, or SLBA facebook page
[10:17]  Higgs Wopat: Excellent
[10:17]  Legal Writer: Thank you for letting us do that!
[10:18]  Legal Writer: OK, other questions?
[10:18]  Legal Writer: OK, since there are no others, let's move on. Item 2 on the agenda is the proposal regarding land ownership.
[10:18]  Legal Writer: We now have a concrete proposal to put in front of you from the Executive Board.
[10:19]  Legal Writer: Ben and JamieBryce would like to present this. So I now invite them to come up and discuss it. Gents?
[10:19]  Benjamin Noble: I'll do it from here. My connection isn't great and I'm likely to end up stuck somewhere.
[10:19]  jamiebryce Infinity nods, ambles up - should I start Ben?
[10:19]  Legal Writer: OK.
[10:19]  Benjamin Noble: Yeah. Thanks. YOu've got a summary I think?
[10:19]  jamiebryce Infinity: yup
[10:19]  Benjamin Noble: Cool.
[10:20]  jamiebryce Infinity: Continuity planning is a basic sklill for lots of transactional lawyers - so it behooves us to do a decent job of it :)
The issue here is that avatars are indiuviduals - but like any succession planning issue, indviduals diue, or leave, or split off.
SL has "group" controls and one can use them to acheive one's goals .. well, mostly. :D Like Larry Lessig says, Code is Law around here
[10:20]  jamiebryce Infinity: Here's what your Exec Board has come up with. A majority did feel that we are better off owning than renting. Various reasons, can discvuss again if someone has questions I guess. But *assuming* that -- here's how we propose to proceed.
[10:20]  jamiebryce Infinity: ...
[10:20]  jamiebryce Infinity: (a) Someone buys land for us. Ben has graciously agreed.
(b) He makes it 'group land'- thus subject to SL group controls - which can be finetuned in the SLBA group by its officers.
(c) We reimruse him for the land purchase from SLBA funds. The concept here in unaligned mailand land, nonbranded, and given current land prices, probably will not be a big splash-out of funds :) I will leave the details of that to Geri & Ben, our unofficial bootleg real estate tycoon committee, to explain if people want to know about about our size & L$ parameters.
[10:20]  jamiebryce Infinity: (d) initially, Ben again (who is a saint) kindly will contribute some of his Linden TIER rights -- the same stuff you buy from them to pay your own mainland rent as part of your SL account -- to the Group.
(e) That covers our monthly rent -- then, over time, ANYONE can contribute that way, and it can change. We might move it to our admin treasurer avatar, an account currently controlled by our own treasurer Geri I think. Or various people can contribute, Whatever.
(f) For continuity, basically, as long as the GROUP OFFICERSHIPS and ownership are tranferred from time to time -- something that is made easy by the ability to designate multiple avatars in those roles -- no one person's departure would defeat our ability to keep using it. Essentially this is the SL equivalent of putting assets into an entity solution.
[10:20]  jamiebryce Infinity: ...
[10:20]  jamiebryce Infinity: Cat, Geri, sorry, remind me, what's the name of that RoboTreasurer again? I'm done.
[10:21]  Geri Kuhn: Actually it is now Lexis
[10:21]  Cat Galileo: Geri? I think it's Bursar someone - it is an alt of current tresurer
[10:21]  jamiebryce Infinity: oops :D
[10:21]  Cat Galileo: geri's was last year ?
[10:21]  Benjamin Noble: Bearsfoot.
[10:21]  jamiebryce Infinity: OK, anyway we have one and, er, will find it :D
[10:21]  Cat Galileo: thanks, Bursar Bearsfoot
[10:21]  jamiebryce Infinity: done :)
[10:23]  Michele Jigsaw: ((sorry to interrupt...I just lost a request..i you dont have an invite form me and you requested please resend
[10:23]  Benjamin Noble: Thanks -- that's exactly it. In a nutshell, group owns our land, and a group-managed avatar owns the group, so if I get hit by a bus, we keep going.
[10:23]  Legal Writer: Thanks, Jamiebryce, for that summary. Let me start with a question. To clarify, if Ben buys the property and then, as you say, makes it a "group" property, I assume that simply means an administrative transfer, right?
[10:23]  Benjamin Noble: It decentralizes everything, and I am 100% in favor of it. It's a smart move for a growing organization.
[10:23]  Legal Writer: Ben can donate the property, if you will, to the group.
[10:23]  Rose Springvale raises hand
[10:23]  Benjamin Noble: Technically, I would donate tier to the group, but anyone can do that instead of me.
[10:24]  Lexis Looming: Bursar Baresfoot curently holds all our funds
[10:24]  Legal Writer: How does the land get from the purchaser to the group?
[10:24]  Lexis Looming: Deedind
[10:24]  jamiebryce Infinity: contribution called a 'deed'
[10:24]  Lexis Looming: It is on the about land control page
[10:24]  jamiebryce Infinity: :)
[10:24]  Lexis Looming: deeding*
[10:24]  Benjamin Noble: indeed.
[10:24]  Benjamin Noble: sorry.
[10:24]  Legal Writer: OK, so this is just an administrative transfer, no biggie, right?
[10:24]  Lexis Looming: oy
[10:24]  Benjamin Noble: Right.
[10:25]  jamiebryce Infinity: so "yes" to Legal's q -- it is an admin transfer
[10:25]  Benjamin Noble: Very simple.
[10:25]  Legal Writer: OK, Rose? You had a question?
[10:25]  Rose Springvale: why not have Bursar own the land? not that i don't admire and appreciate ben
[10:25]  Rose Springvale: then the bills come directly, right?
[10:25]  Benjamin Noble: Thanks rose. It's because nobody wants a credit card on an avatar that others can access.
[10:25]  Benjamin Noble: Not that I don't admire and appreciate every one of you.
[10:25]  Benjamin Noble: ;)
[10:25]  Lexis Looming: Because Rose then Bursar would have to have hsi credit card information available to everyone who can contro Bursar
[10:25]  Rose Springvale: ah, okay. make sense. Thanks to the committee... nice to see this resolved
[10:26]  jamiebryce Infinity: Rose, we could - and other more established groups do that :) but also the SLBA group is a little immature in terms of established routine - you just heard them say they had to dig to find the avatar name :)
[10:26]  jamiebryce Infinity: if it's group land
[10:26]  Legal Writer: Do others have questions?
[10:26]  jamiebryce Infinity: we can change control by changing group roles - easier
[10:26]  Rose Springvale: i forgot that he had to be premium to own mainland
[10:26]  Benjamin Noble nods, immaturely.
[10:26]  Lexis Looming: Well in fairness Bursar is brand new It used to b e Treasurer Fizzle when Geri was treasure
[10:26]  Vaki Zenovka laughs quietly.
[10:27]  Legal Writer: Others?
[10:27]  Lexis Looming: We changed admin avatars when we changed Treasurer
[10:27]  Benjamin Noble: If there aren't any, somebody can move to adopt Jamie's summarized plan as set forth above.
[10:27]  Rose Springvale: move to accept the recommendation of the committee
[10:28]  Legal Writer: OK, if there are no other questions, I will first thank Ben, JamieBryce, and the Board members.
[10:28]  Vaki Zenovka seconds this, if it needs seconding -- I think it's a fantastic solution. Er. I mean. "I move to adopt."
[10:28]  Lexis Looming: secong
[10:28]  Legal Writer: And now we have a motion before the membership to approve the Board's recommendation.
[10:28]  Legal Writer: And a second.
[10:28]  Legal Writer: Is there any final discussion?
[10:29]  Legal Writer: OK, hearing no other discussion, will all in favor say "aye."
[10:29]  Benjamin Noble: aye
[10:29]  Racheal Chevalier: I have a question--sorry i should have mentioned this in the board meeting
[10:29]  Aisln Baxton: aye
[10:29]  Cat Galileo: aye
[10:29]  jamiebryce Infinity: aye
[10:29]  Higgs Wopat: aye
[10:29]  Morgandy Muircastle: aye
[10:29]  Vaki Zenovka: Aye.
[10:29]  Michele Jigsaw: aye
[10:29]  Rose Springvale: aye
[10:29]  Racheal Chevalier: is this a co-ownership among members or the ownership by the association?
[10:30]  Geri Kuhn: aye
[10:30]  Lexis Looming: aye
[10:30]  Legal Writer: Racheal, it's ownership by a group controlled by the association.
[10:30]  Legal Writer: Other ayes?
[10:30]  Racheal Chevalier: bc if it is co-ownership, it might create a control issue later, no?
[10:30]  Legal Writer: OK, how about "nays"?
[10:30]  Sam4 Courtois: aye
[10:31]  Legal Writer: Racheal, there would be multiple controllers from an administrative standpoint over the group.
[10:31]  Soro Dagostino: Nay
[10:31]  Racheal Chevalier: other wise *yes*
[10:31]  Legal Writer: Other "nays"?
[10:31]  Legal Writer: How about abstentions?
[10:31]  jamiebryce Infinity: (sure Racheal - nothings perfect, in business structuring or else there would be no corporate or trust lawyers :D )
[10:31]  Racheal Chevalier: i co-owned land before and had some issue--system issues
[10:31]  jamiebryce Infinity: (or we'd get paid less anyway :D )
[10:32]  Legal Writer: OK, the motion passes.
[10:32]  Cat Galileo: 28 minutes left
[10:32]  Legal Writer: So with that, I thank again Ben and JamieBryce, as well as the rest of the Executive Board for hammering this out.
[10:32]  Racheal Chevalier: (i agree jamie)
[10:32]  Legal Writer: This is a big step forward and will lead to a solid future for the association.
[10:33]  Legal Writer: -- Our own land!
[10:33]  Benjamin Noble: I just want to say that it's really cool to see the organization take steps like this. It means it will be around longer, and be stronger.
[10:33]  Higgs Wopat: Excellent
[10:33]  Lexis Looming: Three cheers for Ben
[10:33]  Aisln Baxton: yes
[10:33]  Higgs Wopat: Thanks Ben!
[10:33]  Benjamin Noble: Cheer for the org. It's really cool how it has grown.
[10:33]  Benjamin Noble: :)
[10:33]  Geri Kuhn: Yes!
[10:33]  jamiebryce Infinity: Amen. Thanks once again to our founder for coming through :)
[10:33]  Benjamin Noble: Absolutely. I'll keep that hat. ;)
[10:34]  Vaki Zenovka slips out to go get ready for the event today. See you guys there!
[10:34]  Legal Writer: Wonderful. I think the next step to "make it so" is for Ben to start looking for suitable land.
[10:34]  Geri Kuhn: Bye Vaki
[10:34]  Lexis Looming: Anyone know a good Realtor?
[10:34]  Lexis Looming: bye vaki
[10:34]  Benjamin Noble: Actually, I'd love to get some help with that. It should be fun and would be lonely on my own. I'll post in the forums.
[10:34]  Legal Writer: Thanks, Ben.
[10:34]  Benjamin Noble: Jamie, if you want to be part of it I'd love to have your expertise on this.
[10:35]  Benjamin Noble: Anybody else with more land experience than me too.
[10:35]  jamiebryce Infinity: Sure. Exec Board people, did I summarize it right? Mainland, unbranded, enough to be useful but not more than we need? Any other parameters that we should mention here or seek advice about?
[10:35]  Legal Writer: OK, let's move on to #3 on the agenda.
[10:35]  Rose Springvale: if you need more group contributions... i've got one you can have
[10:35]  Cat Galileo: I'm goingto remain seated because apparently I can't stand up today.
[10:35]  Benjamin Noble: Yes. I've got some calculations on prims. We'll hash it out in the forum or email or whatever, but that's the plan.
[10:36]  Benjamin Noble shuts up.
[10:36]  Cat Galileo: Speaker series: Geri has arranged what sounds like a super presentation on ethics, which will qualify for CLE / ethics credit in California
[10:36]  Cat Galileo: this is scheduled in March
[10:36]  Geri Kuhn: Uh...not ethics
[10:36]  Legal Writer: Geri, who is the speaker?
[10:36]  Cat Galileo: not ethics
[10:36]  Geri Kuhn: bias in the legal profession
[10:36]  Cat Galileo: bias- sorry
[10:37]  Michele Jigsaw: may I suggest a topic?
[10:37]  Legal Writer: This is elimination of bias, which is a required topic for California lawyers.
[10:37]  Cat Galileo: the speakers will be 2 presenters who are experienced in this topic
[10:37]  Legal Writer: And is of interest to our association and the profession.
[10:37]  Geri Kuhn: From this organization
[10:37]  Legal Writer: Great!
[10:37]  Geri Kuhn: http://www.jan.wvu.edu/index.htm
[10:37]  Legal Writer: Michele, do you have another tiopic we can add to the list of proposed topics?
[10:38]  Cat Galileo: Linda Batiste and Beth Loy. Their bios are available at http://www.jan.wvu.edu/staff/Linda.html and http://www.jan.wvu.edu/staff/Beth.html.
[10:38]  Michele Jigsaw: yes I recently had two speakers debating the online
[10:38]  Michele Jigsaw: child pornography statutues
[10:38]  Michele Jigsaw: one from UK and one from the US
[10:38]  Cat Galileo: I would love to have more to present ?
[10:38]  Michele Jigsaw: it was excellent
[10:38]  Michele Jigsaw: UK is moving to ban cartoon images
[10:39]  Michele Jigsaw: if sexually suggestive
[10:39]  Legal Writer: OK, cool, Cat, can you please work with Michele to see if we can add this for a future session?
[10:39]  Cat Galileo: that woudl be wonderful
[10:39]  Michele Jigsaw: which impacts virtual worlds
[10:39]  Legal Writer: Child porn is a huge issue in the states because of the penalties involved.
[10:39]  Rose Springvale: smiles
[10:39]  Cat Galileo: michele, can I email you outside SL so we can talk after today's event?
[10:40]  Michele Jigsaw: everywhere
[10:40]  Rose Springvale: be careful how you advertise that...
[10:40]  Michele Jigsaw: yes sure
[10:40]  jamiebryce Infinity: ah we had a rocking constituionality debate about the depictions/constitutionality in the Minneapolis City Council a while agho
[10:40]  Rose Springvale: we shut down our local bar mail list
[10:40]  Rose Springvale: spam filters cut out eveyr one
[10:40]  Legal Writer: Moreover, defense lawyers and experts can't even touch the stuff to test it and defend their clients.
[10:40]  Michele Jigsaw: lol
[10:40]  Cat Galileo: good point rose
[10:40]  Legal Writer: Anyway, looks like we have some ideas for future speakers to work with.
[10:40]  Rose Springvale: some interesting aspects in employment law on that too
[10:40]  Michele Jigsaw: perfect point Rose
[10:40]  Legal Writer: Thank you Michele.
[10:40]  Rose Springvale: and
[10:40]  Cat Galileo: hate to have to advertise it as p0rn panel
[10:41]  Michele Jigsaw: Im sure we can find a suitable title
[10:41]  Rose Springvale: you also might want to look at legal responsibilities in blogs and social networking
[10:41]  Legal Writer: OK, we should move on because of time.
[10:41]  jamiebryce Infinity: that at breast cancer awareness :D
[10:41]  Racheal Chevalier: i am interested in money laundering issues/ system secutiry in virtual world
[10:41]  Michele Jigsaw: have someone or that too
[10:41]  Michele Jigsaw: *For
[10:41]  jamiebryce Infinity looks around-- heh heh this IS a social network
[10:41]  Rose Springvale: yep
[10:41]  jamiebryce Infinity: to be discussed this afternoon :D
[10:41]  Rose Springvale: so are we violating state ethics laws?
[10:41]  Rose Springvale: :)
[10:42]  Legal Writer: OK, let's move on.
[10:42]  jamiebryce Infinity: by being boring? No, permitted by the model code in 50 states :)
[10:42]  Legal Writer: I am looking at the agenda, and feel we should take a couple of items out of order.
[10:42]  Legal Writer: Let's go first to the holiday party. I want to say, first, thank you to Geri for reminding us of holiday cheer and coming up with the idea for the party.
[10:42]  Geri Kuhn: :)
[10:43]  Legal Writer: Even though we come from different parts of the world, we come together to enjoy the holidays. And the party is a great idea for enjoyment and socializing -- a key mission of this association.
[10:43]  Higgs Wopat: Here here
[10:43]  Legal Writer: So, Geri, what help do you need now on the planning process?
[10:43]  Legal Writer: Do you have a location in mind?
[10:44]  Geri Kuhn: Our party will be next month.
[10:44]  Geri Kuhn: First, I would welcome some volunteers who would be willing to assist with planning our party. So far I have arranged for the space. It will be on Henri DeCuir’s land. He has a nice boardwalk and open space area. There are fireworks going off “sua sponte” as he says. You can also set off fireworks from stands around the islands. It is very pretty.
[10:44]  jamiebryce Infinity: oo yay
[10:44]  Geri Kuhn: He is willing to set it up however we like. I am currently looking for someone to do the music. But, again, would welcome anyone who wants to volunteer to help plan Please send me an IM if you are interested.
[10:44]  Cat Galileo: party instaed of meeting?
[10:44]  jamiebryce Infinity: he did a great party what 2 years ago?
[10:44]  Cat Galileo: or a different date?
[10:44]  Rose Springvale: did you contact Soli?
[10:44]  Racheal Chevalier: need some DJs?
[10:44]  Rose Springvale: what is the date?
[10:44]  Benjamin Noble: We did it instead in the past.
[10:44]  Geri Kuhn: Well maybe we can havea brief meeting first?
[10:45]  Legal Writer: Yes
[10:45]  Geri Kuhn: I did Rose she isn't available
[10:45]  Benjamin Noble: Or yes, maybe a brief meeting first if needed. I may be remembering that wrong.
[10:45]  Rose Springvale: okay, i have others too, but what date?
[10:45]  Legal Writer: Should we do this at our regular meeting time slot?
[10:45]  Geri Kuhn: I'll chack the next avatar you gavem me
[10:45]  Rose Springvale: he'll do it, just tell him you got his name from me
[10:45]  Geri Kuhn: Well perhpahs at 10:30
[10:45]  Rose Springvale: (rudo gynoid)
[10:46]  Racheal Chevalier: i can arrange live DJs unless someone else is working on it or we want something else:)
[10:46]  Geri Kuhn: *perhaps
[10:46]  Geri Kuhn: Oh that wold be great
[10:46]  Geri Kuhn: I will talk to you later
[10:46]  Racheal Chevalier: ok:)
[10:46]  Legal Writer: So, volunteers should contact Geri.
[10:46]  Legal Writer: And should we say it will take place after our next meeting in the regular meeting solit?
[10:46]  Legal Writer: slot?
[10:47]  Legal Writer: Perhaps a shortened meeting?
[10:47]  Geri Kuhn: Well how about just...exactly
[10:47]  Benjamin Noble: I wish we could have it in the evening, but it gets too late for EU people I think.
[10:47]  Legal Writer: I think that's right.
[10:47]  Legal Writer: For them, it is the evening.
[10:47]  Rose Springvale: recommed you move the meeting to the venue ... you lose people by transferring locations
[10:47]  Benjamin Noble: True, that.
[10:48]  Geri Kuhn: Hmm, good idea
[10:48]  Lexis Looming: How about a 30 minute meeting max and then the party
[10:48]  Geri Kuhn: Yes
[10:48]  Legal Writer: Or, we could start here and then move for people who want after the party solidifies.
[10:48]  Lexis Looming: Rose has a good point
[10:48]  Legal Writer: An "after party" party perhaps?
[10:48]  Legal Writer: Fireworks sounds great.
[10:49]  Rose Springvale: remember how tough SL can be on saturdays for tps
[10:49]  Benjamin Noble: The idea with one location is to get as many people to the party. For what its worth, we may have new (likely bare) land by then to have a party on. :)
[10:49]  Rose Springvale: ohhh
[10:49]  Baeric Constantine: SL of late is difficult TP per se
[10:49]  Higgs Wopat: Less cleanup with bare land
[10:49]  Rose Springvale: i bet henri could put up firworks!
[10:49]  jamiebryce Infinity smiles. Sounds like Geri has multiple offers of help to juggle, which I am sure she will do with her usual aplomb
[10:49]  Baeric Constantine: many seem to have issue with them
[10:49]  Rose Springvale: i've got dance balls
[10:49]  Benjamin Noble: That might be a fun way to introduce the new land, but it would be ugly as sin compared to the cool builds we've used before.
[10:50]  Rose Springvale: hey, we can decorate!
[10:50]  Geri Kuhn: I like the idea of having the party and meeting at the same place
[10:50]  Geri Kuhn: I think we can arrange tables
[10:50]  Lexis Looming: wherever it is
[10:50]  Legal Writer: ok, well maybe we should leave the location TBD.
[10:50]  Cat Galileo: we can throw up something festive, I'm sure
[10:50]  jamiebryce Infinity: Ben, pretty, we can do. Geri just will need to delegate a little :)
[10:50]  Legal Writer: If we have new (bare) land, then that might be nice.
[10:51]  Rose Springvale: just let me know if you need my help. i have all the toys
[10:51]  Rose Springvale: ahem
[10:51]  jamiebryce Infinity: and look who;s here :D ... Hi Herri
[10:51]  jamiebryce Infinity: *Henri
[10:51]  Geri Kuhn laughs at Rose
[10:51]  Henri DeCuir: Hello Jamiebryce :)
[10:51]  Cat Galileo: vavavoom
[10:51]  Cat Galileo: hi Henri
[10:51]  Rose Springvale: smiles innocently
[10:51]  jamiebryce Infinity: saaaqayyyyyy
[10:51]  Lexis Looming: Hi Henri
[10:51]  jamiebryce Infinity: that sort of reminds me
[10:51]  jamiebryce Infinity: sorry Legal
[10:51]  Geri Kuhn: Hi Henri, just discussing the party at your place.
[10:51]  Legal Writer: So in interestes of time, can we move on?
[10:51]  jamiebryce Infinity: maybe we should ask Ben to prioritize PG land? :D
[10:51]  Rose Springvale: ewww
[10:51]  Rose Springvale: oops.
[10:51]  Henri DeCuir: Oh, excellent. Just give me some details, my assistant is ready to throw together whatever you need :)
[10:52]  Legal Writer: Thank you, Henri.
[10:52]  Michele Jigsaw: does it hav eto be PG?
[10:52]  jamiebryce Infinity: i was thinking HQ not party :)
[10:52]  Legal Writer: Would love to have a very festive set of decorations for the party. Thank you.
[10:52]  jamiebryce Infinity: but, um, we have not had any behavior at the last few balls that would scare horses :)
[10:52]  Legal Writer: Anyway, we do have a couple more items.
[10:53]  Legal Writer: FIrst, Higgs Wopat has been doing some work on catalyzing our sections.
[10:53]  Legal Writer: Higgs, would you mind coming up here and discussing your ideas?
[10:53]  Legal Writer: Higgs, would you mind coming up here and discussing your ideas?
[10:53]  Higgs Wopat: Due to lag, I will report from here.
[10:53]  Legal Writer: OK
[10:53]  Higgs Wopat: I sent around a summary to some of you
[10:54]  Higgs Wopat: Basically, I polled some folks who are not in SL yet, to ask what would motivate them to try it
[10:54]  Higgs Wopat: I figured that revitalization can involve new folks in SL
[10:54]  Higgs Wopat: I focused on the gross categories of litigation and transactional practice first
[10:55]  Legal Writer: And those would be the first two I would pick
[10:55]  Higgs Wopat: The feedback that I got is that folks currently want help with their physical world practices
[10:55]  Higgs Wopat: Information load managegment, resources, contacts and the like
[10:56]  Higgs Wopat: So, the initial suggestion is that we consider these things in the new land buildout
[10:56]  Higgs Wopat: I suggest that folks read my report and send me questions
[10:56]  Legal Writer: Let's make breakout rooms if we can for section meetings.
[10:56]  Legal Writer: OK, great.
[10:56]  Rose Springvale: is it posted?
[10:56]  Racheal Chevalier: I strongly feel these SL people need some help in mediation/dispute resolution also
[10:56]  Higgs Wopat: And please consider volunteering for a section
[10:56]  Legal Writer: Higgs, can you post in the forums?
[10:56]  Higgs Wopat: To be a section lead
[10:56]  Lexis Looming: Yes, higgs can you put it in th e forums?
[10:56]  Cat Galileo: not yet, but I can post it
[10:56]  Cat Galileo: or Higgs can ?
[10:56]  Higgs Wopat: Thanks Cat
[10:57]  Legal Writer: I think we should formalize the process to get Section chairs.
[10:57]  Legal Writer: Higgs, can you please gather names of people interested in leadership in these two sections?
[10:57]  Lexis Looming: Would that be something to include in the by laws too?
[10:57]  Lexis Looming: formalizing the process?
[10:57]  Legal Writer: Not sure.
[10:57]  Higgs Wopat: Yes. If you are interested in leadership of these sections, please contact me
[10:58]  Higgs Wopat: Also, if folks would like to start and lead a section, we should probably encourage and enable that
[10:58]  Legal Writer: I think one key is for us to show *value* that you or anyone else would get by joining the section and bewcoming active.
[10:58]  Higgs Wopat: Vaki Zenovka expressed interest in leading the law students section of the forum
[10:58]  Legal Writer: Let's articulate *member benefits* for becoming a section member.
[10:58]  jamiebryce Infinity: yes please
[10:58]  Rose Springvale: We might need a PR section... public relations
[10:59]  Legal Writer: Two other sections to consider -- Law Student Section and Administrative Law Section.
[10:59]  Rose Springvale: would be glad to help... i think we've gotten some misconceptions out there
[10:59]  Lexis Looming: especially if we have a porn conference, rose
[10:59]  Michele Jigsaw: if you want a crim law section I'd be happy to do that
[10:59]  Rose Springvale: hehe
[10:59]  Geri Kuhn smiles
[10:59]  Higgs Wopat: I volunteer to start the articulation of the benefits, requirements, etc. and a catalog of section possibilities
[10:59]  Legal Writer: I say administrative law in part because of gaming issues - the gambling kind - and the impact of governmental regulation in the area.
[11:00]  Legal Writer: Although there is a crim law component too.
[11:00]  Michele Jigsaw: yes ..crossover there
[11:00]  Legal Writer: I think we should also thank and take up Michele's offer to explore a criminal law section too.
[11:00]  Higgs Wopat: Please send me all suggestions and I will organize and distill them for presentation back to the membership for consideration
[11:00]  Legal Writer: Seems like gambling has been a huge issue here.
[11:01]  Legal Writer: So crim would be active with that issue in the short run.
[11:01]  Legal Writer: OK, terrific.
[11:01]  Michele Jigsaw: and financial fraud is huge
[11:01]  Legal Writer: Please contact Higgs with your ideas.
[11:01]  Higgs Wopat: That is all I had for now. Thanks
[11:01]  Racheal Chevalier: I will
[11:01]  Legal Writer: And I would reiterate what he said. We need you to become involved if this Association is to grow .
[11:02]  Legal Writer: Thank you Higgs. Please contact Higgs if you can follow up.
[11:02]  Cat Galileo: report is at http://www.slba.info/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1258225309
[11:02]  Legal Writer: And help him with the sections or if you are interested in leading a section.
[11:02]  Higgs Wopat: Yes, please.

[11:02]  Legal Writer: OK, we are now at 11:02.
[11:02]  Legal Writer: Let me mention quickly a couple of things about incorporation.
[11:03]  Legal Writer: FIrst, my assistant Catherine Chamberlain (RL name) and I have filed the mandatory report with the California Attorney General's Office to register as a non-profit in Cal.
[11:03]  Legal Writer: Section, Catherine and I (got to get her on SL soon ;-)) are working with Lexis to make an application to the IRS for 501c3 status.
[11:04]  Legal Writer: We are still working on the paperwork. Lexis can hopefully provide us with financials and there are a few other loose ends. But it's moving along.
[11:04]  Rose Springvale: fees go up 100 usd Jan 1 :)
[11:04]  Lexis Looming: We need to get our by laws resoved also
[11:04]  Legal Writer: And that brings us to the last issue -- the bylaws. We can't move forward on the 501c3 application without final bylaws.
[11:05]  Legal Writer: I have placed a new set of bylaws in the forums. Ot
[11:05]  Legal Writer: It is in the section entitled "SLBA Administration."
[11:06]  Legal Writer: There is a post there with a pdf copy of a redlined document showing changes from the last version (in June).
[11:06]  Legal Writer: I have not seen comments concerning this issues I identified after Rose's initial comments.
[11:07]  Legal Writer: But I hope you take a look at it. I will dedicate next meeting to get this matter closed.
[11:07]  Legal Writer: I would like an up or down vote, hopefully by the end of that meeting on the bylaws.
[11:07]  Rose Springvale: legal?
[11:07]  Rose Springvale: didn't we just say the next meeting was short and a party?
[11:07]  Legal Writer: Please take a look at the current draft, and be prepared to discuss this at our holiday meeting -- hopefully with a cup of eggnog and holiday cheer as well.
[11:07]  Geri Kuhn laughs
[11:08]  Legal Writer: And since it is a short meeting, we probably shouldn't tackle much else at that meeting.
[11:08]  Geri Kuhn: Eggnog should help
[11:08]  Higgs Wopat: Bylaws party!!!

[11:08]  Legal Writer: But we *must* get this resolved soon. So I would not want to hold it over to Jan.
[11:08]  Legal Writer: Is everyone OK with that?
[11:08]  Aisln Baxton: yes
[11:08]  Cat Galileo: fine with me.
[11:08]  Higgs Wopat: That makes sense
[11:08]  Baeric Constantine: indeed
[11:08]  Geri Kuhn: yes
[11:08]  Racheal Chevalier: yes
[11:09]  Benjamin Noble nods. Agreed.
[11:09]  Legal Writer: Exec Board Members -- please read them, and let's get any of your final changes in the next week, so we can add any amendments.
[11:09]  Lexis Looming: we agree that all disagreements will be resolved in a half hour and then P*A*R*T*y
[11:09]  Legal Writer: No drinking games to resolve contested issues, please. ;-)
[11:09]  Rose Springvale: at least we have our priorities in order!
[11:09]  Benjamin Noble: Also, please pay attenton to existing bylaws, as whatever we do has to either comport with them or change anything that poses a conflict.
[11:10]  Benjamin Noble: They're stickied in the forums.
[11:10]  jamiebryce Infinity: :D
[11:10]  Legal Writer: OK, any other business?
[11:10]  Racheal Chevalier: ok
[11:10]  Cat Galileo: also at http://slbarassn.ning.com/page/slba-bylaws
[11:10]  jamiebryce Infinity: chug chug chug - um, i mean, bylaws
[11:10]  Benjamin Noble laughs.
[11:10]  Rose Springvale: (and here we have the response to all those people who say "how do you know they are really lawyers?")
[11:10]  jamiebryce Infinity: urp
[11:10]  Higgs Wopat: indeed
[11:10]  Henri DeCuir: Because they transition so quickly from legalese to drunkness?
[11:10]  Higgs Wopat: and back again
[11:11]  Cat Galileo: can i take a quick informal poll, where do folks get their announcements about events? (ning, forum, inworld, twitter, Facebook)
[11:11]  Legal Writer: Any other business or busyness?
[11:11]  Rose Springvale: inworld
[11:11]  Rose Springvale: and email.
[11:11]  Aisln Baxton: in world and email
[11:11]  jamiebryce Infinity: but it's bilaterally symmetric Henri :D
[11:11]  Geri Kuhn: all
[11:11]  Rose Springvale: didn't know we had facebook or twitter!
[11:11]  Sam4 Courtois: is there a LM to the conference somewhere?
[11:11]  jamiebryce Infinity: hic
[11:11]  Benjamin Noble: email from my IMs getting forwarded, usually.
[11:11]  Racheal Chevalier: emails
[11:11]  Lexis Looming: In world that ends up in my e-mail primarily
[11:11]  Higgs Wopat: emails
[11:11]  jamiebryce Infinity: sam- see the web page http://slbarassn.ning.com/events/practicing-law-in-a-virtual
[11:11]  Cat Galileo: do you have preferences? obviuosly we are going to keep doing in-world
[11:11]  Sam4 Courtois: Thanks
[11:12]  Rose Springvale: if we rsvp'd are we on the list?
[11:12]  jamiebryce Infinity: see you there all. if a fly away, is that a motion to adjourn ? :D
[11:12]  Cat Galileo: and of course i'm asking the people who got the message :(
[11:12]  jamiebryce Infinity: gotta go fo a mic check :D ta
[11:12]  Legal Writer: OK, we are past our time.
[11:12]  Benjamin Noble: Moves to adjourn.
[11:12]  Higgs Wopat: second
[11:12]  Benjamin Noble: aye
[11:12]  Legal Writer: Can folks take discussions offline?
[11:12]  jamiebryce Infinity: thanks all
[11:12]  Higgs Wopat: aye
[11:12]  Legal Writer: Also, one last thing.
[11:12]  Rose Springvale: aye
[11:12]  Legal Writer: Please come to our conference!
[11:12]  Racheal Chevalier: thank you all
[11:12]  Higgs Wopat: Thanks all

[11:13]  Lexis Looming: aye
[11:13]  Rose Springvale: lol. we did that already :)
[11:13]  Legal Writer: Any opposed?
[11:13]  Legal Writer: Abstentions?
[11:13]  Lexis Looming: good meeting
[11:13]  Legal Writer: OK, thanks all!
[11:13]  Lexis Looming: see you all at the conference
[11:13]  Legal Writer: Please come to the conference!
[11:13]  Rose Springvale: nice work
[11:13]  Benjamin Noble: Great meeting. Thanks for herding the cats again, Legal.
