[2010/05/08 10:12]  Geri Kuhn: Welcome to the May meeting of the SL Bar Association. As a reminder, we will be keeping a transcript of this meeting and it will be posted to our website.
[2010/05/08 10:13]  Geri Kuhn: Welcome Mick
[2010/05/08 10:13]  Geri Kuhn: The first item on our agenda is something that we can all see we have our new building! I’d like to thank Ben for his hard work on selecting the building and setting it up. As you can see, we need some interior decoration.
[2010/05/08 10:14]  Geri Kuhn: We would like to form a committee of people who would be interested in purchasing and setting up our new space. Do we have any volunteers?
[2010/05/08 10:14]  Yoss Kamachi: sure
[2010/05/08 10:14]  Yoss Kamachi: I also have some paintings I can loan for the walls
[2010/05/08 10:14]  Geri Kuhn: Wow that was quick, great.
[2010/05/08 10:14]  Geri Kuhn: Do we have any other volunteers?
[2010/05/08 10:15]  Sam4 Courtois: I might be able to help
[2010/05/08 10:15]  Mick Stenvaag I have a few paintings to offer
[2010/05/08 10:15]  Rose Springvale: sorry,
[2010/05/08 10:16]  Geri Kuhn: Okay, well can you two arrange a time to meet and come up some ideas.
[2010/05/08 10:16]  Geri Kuhn: Hi Rose
[2010/05/08 10:16]  Geri Kuhn: Ben, how much money is left in our budget for furniture?
[2010/05/08 10:17]  Benjamin Noble: Far, far more than needed. We authorized 10k initially. I spent something under 3k on the building and chairs together. The building was a really good deal.
[2010/05/08 10:17]  Lexis Looming: about $3500L I think
[2010/05/08 10:18]  Geri Kuhn: Okay, that sounds good.
[2010/05/08 10:18]  Benjamin Noble: Maybe that's right. $3500 spent? Anyway, we really don't need all that's left for the rest of the furniture, so we're in good shape on that.
[2010/05/08 10:18]  Benjamin Noble: We do need more prims, which might go to a later agenda item.
[2010/05/08 10:18]  Geri Kuhn: Can you two arrange a time to meet and see what you can do?
[2010/05/08 10:18]  Lexis Looming: oh no I am awrong. we have $7392 left from the budget
[2010/05/08 10:19]  Yoss Kamachi: sure
[2010/05/08 10:19]  Benjamin Noble: /me nods. That sound sright, Lexis.
[2010/05/08 10:19]  Geri Kuhn: Thanks.
[2010/05/08 10:19]  Geri Kuhn: Okay, one item not on the agenda but that I would like to discus now
[2010/05/08 10:20]  Geri Kuhn: At the last meeting Mick volunteered, sort of, to lead a committee
[2010/05/08 10:20]  Geri Kuhn: to forumlate a donation policy for the SL Bar
[2010/05/08 10:20]  Geri Kuhn: So I am wondering if there are folks who would be interested in joining his committee
[2010/05/08 10:20]  Mick Stenvaag Some are great, some are born great and others have greatness thrust upon them
[2010/05/08 10:20]  Geri Kuhn: Today is a day of asking for volunteers
[2010/05/08 10:21]  Mick Stenvaag help !!
[2010/05/08 10:21]  Lexis Looming: /me smiles
[2010/05/08 10:21]  Sam4 Courtois: Is there a policy issue with regard to donatoins
[2010/05/08 10:21]  Geri Kuhn: The idea behind the committee is to fomulate a plan so that we could seek donations in a fair, balanced way.
[2010/05/08 10:21]  Geri Kuhn: Mick has had some experience in this in RL.
[2010/05/08 10:22]  Mick Stenvaag: if I may comment Madam Chair
[2010/05/08 10:22]  Geri Kuhn: Sure
[2010/05/08 10:22]  MystiTool HUD 1.3.1: Entering chat range: Legal Writer (19m)
[2010/05/08 10:22]  Mick Stenvaag My thought is the best way to manage expectations
[2010/05/08 10:22]  Mick Stenvaag: is to set them up front
[2010/05/08 10:23]  Mick Stenvaag: this will avoid confusion and other potential conflicts
[2010/05/08 10:23]  Mick Stenvaag: in moving forward
[2010/05/08 10:23]  Mick Stenvaag: end of comment
[2010/05/08 10:23]  Geri Kuhn: Thank you Mick.
[2010/05/08 10:24]  Geri Kuhn: I will send out a general notice if we have no volunteers here today.
[2010/05/08 10:24]  Geri Kuhn: And hopefully it will be a committee of more than one.
[2010/05/08 10:24]  Sam4 Courtois: I am still foggy on what the problem is
[2010/05/08 10:24]  Geri Kuhn: Well the issue is that we would like to solicit donations
[2010/05/08 10:25]  Geri Kuhn: from corporate sponsors, others
[2010/05/08 10:25]  Lexis Looming: Soem were concerned that if we accept "sponsorship" we are giving a quid pro quo to donors
[2010/05/08 10:25]  Lexis Looming: some*
[2010/05/08 10:25]  Geri Kuhn: But to do so in fair way
[2010/05/08 10:25]  Sam4 Courtois: I see - donations without strings
[2010/05/08 10:25]  Agenda Faromet: /me coughs. Excuse my crashing.
[2010/05/08 10:25]  Sam4 Courtois: Good policy
[2010/05/08 10:25]  Geri Kuhn: /me grins.
[2010/05/08 10:26]  Geri Kuhn: It will help us in the future. Thanks Mick.
[2010/05/08 10:26]  Geri Kuhn: All right, our next agenda item is what we are calling coffee chat.
[2010/05/08 10:26]  Geri Kuhn: Rose, would you like to discuss this?
[2010/05/08 10:27]  Geri Kuhn: Sorry to put you on the spot.
[2010/05/08 10:27]  Rose Springvale: hadn't planned to, but nothing too difficult
[2010/05/08 10:27]  Mick Stenvaag: No problem - if I could gain some assistance in crafting a draft policy and presenting it to the membership - it will goa long way to keeping money flowing.
[2010/05/08 10:27]  Rose Springvale: many of us are in the SLBA not for cLE or such, but for the networking
[2010/05/08 10:27]  Rose Springvale: so we thought we'd try a social hour
[2010/05/08 10:27]  Rose Springvale: To kick it off, we'll do one per month, and i think we agreed on May 19 for the first, right Geri?
[2010/05/08 10:28]  Geri Kuhn: Yes
[2010/05/08 10:28]  Geri Kuhn: May 19 at 4:00 p.m. SLT
[2010/05/08 10:28]  Rose Springvale: Wanted to hit people at the end of the work day if possible, so chossing a mid point for US folks... i think we landed on 4? i'm sorry don't recall
[2010/05/08 10:28]  Rose Springvale: yes
[2010/05/08 10:28]  Rose Springvale: okay
[2010/05/08 10:29]  Geri Kuhn: Shall we meet here?
[2010/05/08 10:29]  Rose Springvale: just come as you are, chat with who's here, i'll bring the coffee and wine. Yes please
[2010/05/08 10:29]  Geri Kuhn: Coffee and wine sound great.
[2010/05/08 10:29]  Rose Springvale: think of it as stopping off at the "bar" on the way home
[2010/05/08 10:30]  Geri Kuhn: This will be very infomral with no agenda.
[2010/05/08 10:30]  Geri Kuhn: Thanks Rose for starting this.
[2010/05/08 10:30]  Benjamin Noble: Great idea. Its something that a lot of members will be excited about.
[2010/05/08 10:30]  Geri Kuhn: I will send out a notice but be sure to mention it to others.
[2010/05/08 10:30]  Yoss Kamachi: i put it on my calendar
[2010/05/08 10:31]  Benjamin Noble: It's also going to motivate me to get my IT department to give me a hole in the firewall. ;)
[2010/05/08 10:31]  Solomon Cortes: Sounds like a great initiative. I'd love to join occasionally, but the timing won't work for Europeans. But I know how difficult it is to accommodate everyone. Unless we could do, say, some social / networking after these meetings....we picked this time because it did tend to work for US and Europe....
[2010/05/08 10:31]  Karli Daviau: i'm new to the bar association, this will be a nice way to meet people
[2010/05/08 10:31]  Rose Springvale: Solomon, no reason we can't alternate times
[2010/05/08 10:31]  Legal Writer: I agree it's a great idea.
[2010/05/08 10:31]  Rose Springvale: but no more weekends! :)
[2010/05/08 10:31]  Legal Writer: We could have a morning coffee. ;-)
[2010/05/08 10:32]  Geri Kuhn: True, I think alternating times is a good idea.
[2010/05/08 10:32]  Rose Springvale: best if someone from eu time zones takes the lead on that :)
[2010/05/08 10:32]  Solomon Cortes: That would be great: 4pm SLT is midnight in London and later in the rest of Europe!
[2010/05/08 10:32]  Sam4 Courtois: Not too early please
[2010/05/08 10:32]  Geri Kuhn: Ugh!
[2010/05/08 10:32]  Sam4 Courtois: Alaska is GMT -8
[2010/05/08 10:32]  Rose Springvale: lol
[2010/05/08 10:33]  Rose Springvale: we know there are time issues. but that's sl :)
[2010/05/08 10:33]  Geri Kuhn: Okay, well we try 4:00 p.m this month and see how it goes
[2010/05/08 10:33]  Lexis Looming: Alternating times would be good
[2010/05/08 10:33]  Geri Kuhn: By the time of the next meeting we'll have a new time picked
[2010/05/08 10:34]  Geri Kuhn: Solmon, what would be a good time for folks in Europe?
[2010/05/08 10:34]  Solomon Cortes: Yes. And since I may be in a small minority, I definitely don't want to push for a time that's inconvenient for the majoority of people.
[2010/05/08 10:35]  Legal Writer: If you did it 7 am SLT, then that would be 3 in the afternoon in London.
[2010/05/08 10:35]  Benjamin Noble: When we've run EU timed events in the past, we've found that we have more EU members than we realize.
[2010/05/08 10:35]  Legal Writer: That would be a breakfast coffee for us.
[2010/05/08 10:36]  Geri Kuhn: And it would be nice to increase membership
[2010/05/08 10:36]  Solomon Cortes: It depends - if we're talking about weekdays, my guess is that most European SLBA members who might want to join may find it difficult to do so during the working day, so perhaps around 1pm SLT?
[2010/05/08 10:36]  Rose Springvale: same with US members... so need to have someone for whom that time is convenient to host
[2010/05/08 10:37]  Geri Kuhn: Right
[2010/05/08 10:37]  Lexis Looming: Noon slt may allow us members to have lunch while European members would be able to join after work?
[2010/05/08 10:37]  Rose Springvale: um
[2010/05/08 10:37]  Geri Kuhn: We'll be "volunteering" Solomon for a future meeting
[2010/05/08 10:37]  Rose Springvale: only for californians
[2010/05/08 10:37]  Rose Springvale: et noon slt is 3pm
[2010/05/08 10:38]  Lexis Looming: I eat lucn at 2 pm sometimes lol..not usually on purpose though
[2010/05/08 10:38]  Solomon Cortes: Yes, noon SLT would probably be fine: a couple of people may be eating their dinner then, but no one will need to know!
[2010/05/08 10:38]  Geri Kuhn: It looks like we have various time slots we can try
[2010/05/08 10:38]  Mick Stenvaag its all good
[2010/05/08 10:38]  Geri Kuhn: Perhaps different hosts each month might be a good idea
[2010/05/08 10:39]  Solomon Cortes: In fact, while most of you are having your coffee, I might be on an evening glass of wine....so my typing mught be slurred....
[2010/05/08 10:39]  Geri Kuhn: at least in the time slot that works out best
[2010/05/08 10:39]  Geri Kuhn: /me grins
[2010/05/08 10:39]  Geri Kuhn: I guess we should go for the evening time slot in London for Solomon
[2010/05/08 10:40]  Geri Kuhn: All right well for May anyway, we'll try it out at 4:00 p.m. SLT on May 19
[2010/05/08 10:40]  Rose Springvale: Geri?
[2010/05/08 10:41]  Geri Kuhn: And Yoss and Sam, when you are looking for furniture you should perhaps think of some nice furnuture for a chat
[2010/05/08 10:41]  Rose Springvale: if people want to get together, there isn't really even any need to schedule is there? just send out a note on group chat, say come over and talk?
[2010/05/08 10:41]  Solomon Cortes: Please don't if I'm the only European and it's awkward for everyone else. If only there were an iPhone browser for SL: insomniac Londoners could really do with something like that....
[2010/05/08 10:41]  Geri Kuhn: Yes Rose
[2010/05/08 10:41]  Lexis Looming: There is Sol. I have it and used it today
[2010/05/08 10:41]  Rykk Ferraris: Ther eis an iPhone SL app
[2010/05/08 10:41]  Lexis Looming: there are two
[2010/05/08 10:42]  Lexis Looming: Sparkle and Metaverse
[2010/05/08 10:42]  Legal Writer: What are they called?
[2010/05/08 10:42]  Legal Writer: Got it
[2010/05/08 10:42]  Geri Kuhn: Well let's schedule it and I will send out a notice. Those that want to appear can and those that want to do it ina group chat can
[2010/05/08 10:42]  Solomon Cortes: (Out of synch: my please don't was to the proposal to change to SL morning times - if it's inconvenient for everyone else.
[2010/05/08 10:42]  Geri Kuhn: Oh wait that won't work
[2010/05/08 10:42]  Geri Kuhn: Let 's just schedule it and hopefully folks will come "in person"
[2010/05/08 10:43]  Geri Kuhn: We'll see what happens
: I use both and Sparkle is the best
[2010/05/08 10:43]  Lexis Looming: I haven't tried Sparkle but Metaverse isn't bad
[2010/05/08 10:43]  Geri Kuhn: By the way, Ben has submitted a complaint to Linden about the neighbors.
[2010/05/08 10:43]  Solomon Cortes: Thanks for the tip: I'll try out Sparkle. And maybe Metaverse...
[2010/05/08 10:43]  Lexis Looming: and it's $2 cheaper lol
[2010/05/08 10:44]  Agenda Faromet: /me laughs. "Aww, you don't like being randomly bled on?"
[2010/05/08 10:44]  Yoss Kamachi: lol
[2010/05/08 10:44]  Geri Kuhn: It is kind of wakward
[2010/05/08 10:44]  Geri Kuhn: awkward
[2010/05/08 10:44]  Mick Stenvaag begin_of_the_skype_highlighting     end_of_the_skype_highlighting: I thought it was wet paint
[2010/05/08 10:44]  Geri Kuhn: hehehe
[2010/05/08 10:44]  Geri Kuhn: Yeah, still finishing up on the building
[2010/05/08 10:44]  Lexis Looming: The Lindens sent an email to SLBAAdministrator acknowledging the complaint
[2010/05/08 10:45]  Lexis Looming: They are working on it
[2010/05/08 10:45]  Geri Kuhn: Thanks Ben for doing that
[2010/05/08 10:45]  Lexis Looming: we have only 46 prims left
[2010/05/08 10:45]  Benjamin Noble: For the record, we're not asking them to take any action against the residents, just turn off the particles. We contacted the owner directly, but never heard anything back.
[2010/05/08 10:46]  Geri Kuhn: Is that because of the neighbors?
[2010/05/08 10:46]  Sam4 Courtois: Going to be tough to furnish this place with 46 prims
[2010/05/08 10:46]  Geri Kuhn: the low prim count?
[2010/05/08 10:46]  Benjamin Noble: We do only have 46 prims at the moment. That's not from the neighbors, it's just a function of building and 30 4 prim chairs.
[2010/05/08 10:46]  Yoss Kamachi: we will take a minimalist approach
[2010/05/08 10:46]  Geri Kuhn: /me smiles.
[2010/05/08 10:46]  Lexis Looming: all the prims except your agenda are owned by SLBAAdministrator...none owned by neighbors
[2010/05/08 10:46]  Benjamin Noble: It'
[2010/05/08 10:46]  Geri Kuhn: Yes, indeed.
[2010/05/08 10:47]  Sam4 Courtois: Even so
[2010/05/08 10:47]  Benjamin Noble: We can probably remove 6-10 chairs.
[2010/05/08 10:47]  Yoss Kamachi: we might need a few more prims
[2010/05/08 10:47]  Benjamin Noble: And yes, I agree, we may want a few more. We may get those via donations of extra tier from members.
[2010/05/08 10:47]  Sam4 Courtois: simple chairs don't require 4 prims
[2010/05/08 10:47]  Rose Springvale: just do benches like we had in Tabula Rasa
[2010/05/08 10:48]  Mick Stenvaag or used throw rugs and sit on the floor.
[2010/05/08 10:48]  Geri Kuhn: Okay, well perhaps that will be the first function of Mick's committee is to solicit donations of tier from members.
[2010/05/08 10:48]  Sam4 Courtois: but even if we generated 120 prims by removing all the chairs, that doesn't generate much for decorations
[2010/05/08 10:48]  Benjamin Noble: Benches could work. We'll leave it to the committee.
[2010/05/08 10:48]  Agenda Faromet: Yes...you can get good low-prim furniture. You could get good seating that only takes up 1 prim.
[2010/05/08 10:49]  Yoss Kamachi: mick - we are going to need some prims
[2010/05/08 10:49]  Yoss Kamachi: for that fountain I want to get for downstairs!
[2010/05/08 10:49]  Geri Kuhn: Perhaps the committee can see what is out there and report back.
[2010/05/08 10:49]  Rose Springvale: is the building mod?
[2010/05/08 10:49]  Sam4 Courtois: May I ask the maximum number of chairs that we would ever need?
[2010/05/08 10:49]  Mick Stenvaag The Future are mere Lindens Away
[2010/05/08 10:49]  Benjamin Noble: We've hit 25 people for a few things, but 20 usually is max.
[2010/05/08 10:50]  Sam4 Courtois: People could obviously sit closer together
[2010/05/08 10:50]  Benjamin Noble: Yep, many possibilities.
[2010/05/08 10:50]  Geri Kuhn: See what you can do with what we have.
[2010/05/08 10:50]  Geri Kuhn: Moving along
[2010/05/08 10:50]  Geri Kuhn: In another quest to seek volunteers, I believe Cat could use some help with our website
[2010/05/08 10:51]  Yoss Kamachi: what is the URL?
[2010/05/08 10:51]  Geri Kuhn: We will need to move it because the current host is going to charge
[2010/05/08 10:51]  Geri Kuhn: One sec Yoss,
[2010/05/08 10:51]  Geri Kuhn: http://slbarassn.ning.com/
[2010/05/08 10:52]  Lexis Looming: We have been using NING and NING is no longer going to be free
[2010/05/08 10:52]  Benjamin Noble: One note, because of the way we arranged tier (I donate and am reimbursed) we have an extra 205 square meters we can buy for the organization just for the prims, with no additional cost except the outlay for the land (which could, of course, be resold later). We get a "bonus" of a certain percentage because we "donate" the tier from my account to the organization.
[2010/05/08 10:52]  Geri Kuhn: Ning is no longer going to be free
[2010/05/08 10:52]  Rose Springvale: geri, lots of ning people are moving to spruz
[2010/05/08 10:52]  Yoss Kamachi: I can help with hosting
[2010/05/08 10:52]  Rose Springvale: and are very happy
[2010/05/08 10:52]  Benjamin Noble: Sorry, I'm still on land. Anyway, we get extra prims if we buy the 205 sq meters. Something for the interior build out committee to think about, talk over with Geri.
[2010/05/08 10:52]  Benjamin Noble: Moving on.
[2010/05/08 10:53]  Geri Kuhn: Okay, Ben, we'll get back to that
[2010/05/08 10:53]  Lexis Looming: is the cemetary for saale?
[2010/05/08 10:53]  Geri Kuhn: about the website, yes, Rose and we may go that direction
[2010/05/08 10:53]  Benjamin Noble: Yes, sorry, Geri. Got lapped typing.
[2010/05/08 10:54]  Rose Springvale: i opened an account there and it seems they were offering special tools to migrate ning sites
[2010/05/08 10:54]  Geri Kuhn: I think Cat needs help in moving our website, keeping it updated and probably wants someone to take it over
[2010/05/08 10:54]  Lexis Looming: I think spurz is one Cat mentioned
[2010/05/08 10:54]  Geri Kuhn: I think so
[2010/05/08 10:55]  Geri Kuhn: Well no one is jumping out of their chair.
[2010/05/08 10:55]  Rose Springvale: sorry, i'm already overcommitted lol
[2010/05/08 10:55]  Geri Kuhn: Yes, I can imagine.
[2010/05/08 10:55]  Geri Kuhn: I will send out a general announcement for this too
[2010/05/08 10:55]  Yoss Kamachi: I own a hosting company for sites
[2010/05/08 10:56]  Yoss Kamachi: I would be happy to help
[2010/05/08 10:56]  Geri Kuhn: Okay, that would be great Yoss.
[2010/05/08 10:56]  Yoss Kamachi: I'm not familiar with spruz, but we can figure it out
[2010/05/08 10:56]  Geri Kuhn: You're first meeting and you are jumping right in.
[2010/05/08 10:56]  Geri Kuhn: *your
[2010/05/08 10:56]  Yoss Kamachi: it is what former IT people that become lawyers do
[2010/05/08 10:56]  Geri Kuhn: You should speak with Cat Gallieo
[2010/05/08 10:57]  Geri Kuhn: I will ask her to find you as well.
[2010/05/08 10:57]  Geri Kuhn: Okay back to the land
[2010/05/08 10:57]  Geri Kuhn: I'm sorry, okay, Ben, what was your idea?
[2010/05/08 10:57]  Rykk Ferraris: Excuse me, RL intrudes. Catch up later.
[2010/05/08 10:57]  Agenda Faromet: /me quietly cheers for former IT people-turned-lawyers.
[2010/05/08 10:58]  Geri Kuhn: Bye Rykk
[2010/05/08 10:58]  Geri Kuhn: Thanks For coming
[2010/05/08 10:58]  Benjamin Noble: Just this - when people "donate" tier to the group (which is how we set this up, with me donating tier, and the org. reimburseing me the cost) we get a 10% bonus on available land. So I donate 2048, but we get 2253 available. We've only bought 2048 so far, so if we buy the additional 205 sq meters, we get those extra prims avaialble here.
[2010/05/08 10:59]  Yoss Kamachi: makes sense
[2010/05/08 10:59]  Lexis Looming: I think Ben was pointing out that adding tier does not add prims unless you use the tier to buy more land...and I think that land would have to be adjacent, but I am not sure
[2010/05/08 10:59]  Benjamin Noble: It's not a ton, but it's something. It may have to be adjacent, I'm not sure. Anyway, it's a thought. We can keep an eye on adjacent land if that is necessary.
[2010/05/08 10:59]  Rose Springvale: just the same sim Lexis
[2010/05/08 10:59]  Sam4 Courtois: But how many prims do we get for the additional purchase?
[2010/05/08 11:00]  Rose Springvale: every 512 m has 117 prims
[2010/05/08 11:00]  Benjamin Noble: WHatever 205 square meters gets (not a lot) 50 or so.
[2010/05/08 11:00]  Sam4 Courtois: so half of that?
[2010/05/08 11:00]  Yoss Kamachi: it is 4 sqft for prim or so
[2010/05/08 11:00]  Sam4 Courtois: ok
[2010/05/08 11:01]  Geri Kuhn: So we have to donate tier to buy the land?
[2010/05/08 11:01]  Sam4 Courtois: So we would be working with something on the order of 200 prims to furnish this place
[2010/05/08 11:01]  Karli Daviau: bye all....i have another sl meeting....this was an interesting first meeting....i'll try to not be a stranger
[2010/05/08 11:01]  Yoss Kamachi: Sam - yes
[2010/05/08 11:01]  Benjamin Noble: And there may be other people who can donate outright too. I, for instance, have a premium account but don't really need the land, so will donate 512 once we figure out how we can do that.
[2010/05/08 11:01]  Rose Springvale: you can do a lot with 200 prims
[2010/05/08 11:01]  Soro Dagostino: Sorry folk, I have to go.
[2010/05/08 11:02]  Soro Dagostino: Bye -all
